Forgotten in WoW? Dezco… and you thought the name Bloodhoof meant drama

Hardly any other people had to put up with as much as the tauren in WoW. Despite the constant tragedies, however, the brave people do not lose heart.

Do you remember Sunwalker Dezco? The name will primarily mean something to the Hordler among the WoW heroes, but those who have paid attention to Mists of Pandaria will certainly have heard the super-tragic story of Dezco and his companion Leza. And if you don’t remember, I’m here to jog your memory – and here we are in the middle of the second part of my Forgotten in WoW series, in which I dedicate myself to heroes from the second row, who once filled a marginal role in WoW lore, and then from the storytellers at Blizzard … somehow forgotten became.

Our first journey into the past dealt with Edwin van Cleef’s Smutje Krümel. This time I didn’t choose a dungeon opponent, but a character that stuck in my mind because of his fate: Sunwalker Dezco. And if you thought the history of tauren chieftain Baine Bloodhoof was laced with drama… then you’ve never heard of the sunwalkers.

Sunwalker Dezco, Chieftain of the Dawnhunters

After the Cataclysm, some tauren in Thunder Bluff, including members of the Dawnchasers, had visions of a light-filled, golden, and fertile valley in a fabled but shrouded land. At the behest of Chief Baine Bloodhoof, the Dawnhunters broke camp in Mulgore and set sail. Your mission: find this mysterious land. But the journey was not under a good star. Ships sank in the sea or were lost, and only one of them made it onto the shores of the Krasarang Wilds, a hostile place.

The tauren attempted to follow the Dojani River north, but their path was hampered by the jungle, attacking mogu, and the negative influence of the sha. Thus, the Dawnhunters were forced to set up camp in the northern Krasarang Wilds, where they are finally found by a hero of the Horde – you. The Hordlers among you. You understand what I want to say.

Dezco’s sons

At this point, the chief of the morning hunters was a father-to-be: the visions of his pregnant wife, Leza, brought Dezco and his morning hunters to the reasonably safe place in the Krasarang Wilds. However, Leza was under the negative influence of the Sha and healing her illness is your task. Ultimately, while you can always save Azeroth from doom, you can’t save Leza from her end. She did not survive the birth of her twins, Redhorn and Misthoof. Dezco then had to take care of them with a heavy heart, while at the same time he was hit by further strokes of fate. His old friend Kor Bloodfang gave his life, and even alongside the pandaren that Dezco helps, he sees nothing but misery. Eventually, however, when the Celestials opened the gate to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, Dezco and his tauren finally found the vale of their visions. They found some peace and quiet at the Shrine of Two Moons, which Dezco presided over as quasi-boss. The emphasis is on … something.

bleeding sun

Away from the game, Dezco once again became the protagonist of a drama that is second to none in his own short story – The Bleeding Sun by Matt Burns. The Golden Lotus was searching among the inhabitants of Pandaria for a child destined to serve the Lotus, and according to a prophecy of Chi-ji, it was one of Dezco’s two children. The chief, however, wants nothing to do with this and instead sets off with his two sons on the way to Mulgore to know that the twins are safe and thus to honor the wish of his deceased companion Leza.

While searching for a way to escape from Pandaria, Rothorn is kidnapped by Mogu in the night, and Dezco joins members of the Golden Lotus in search of the boy – taking his second son with him. The mission to rescue Rothorn from the mogu’s clutches fails miserably: Mokimo of the Golden Lotus and Rothorn are poisoned, Misthoof is crushed. Chi-ji saves Redhorn and Mokimo, but Misthoof dies from his injuries. Dezco decides to place Rothorn in the care of the Golden Lotus, believing the sacred and incredible powers of the valley must be protected.

The glorious glow

After all that drama, you’d give Dezco a break, wouldn’t you? But no, next for the tauren was dealing with his grief for his family. In Warlords of Draenor, the taure came to your tavern in search of an arakkoa sun crystal. Perhaps I should mention it: Dezco is a tauren paladin and accordingly worships An’she, the sun, from whose light he draws his holy power. It’s no wonder he’s interested in the power of the sun used by the arakkoa on Draenor, is it?

The problem, however, is that Dezco becomes dependent on the light. He could see the brightness and radiance of the sun in the first crystal you brought him, but over time that crystal lost its light, so you should bring another one to Dezco. The warmth of the sun crystal is comforting. Comforting. Yes / Yes.
