Today’s desktop PCs still rarely have an optical drive, instead of CD-ROMs, PC users nowadays tend to use USB sticks and downloads. Despite this, the optical storage medium has made a very important contribution to the history of the PC. In today’s episode of PCGH Quiz Time, you can test how well you really know about the data slices.
When the CD-ROM established itself in the desktop PC in the mid-1990s, it offered an incredible amount of storage space. This was a welcome opportunity for game developers to try completely new gameplay concepts. With a CD-ROM drive, the PC finally became a multimedia machine – it was now possible to play videos that were eating up memory space, to enjoy music in CD quality or to have extensive reference works with thousands of pages always at hand. This time PCGH Quiz Time lets you test how well you know about the once revolutionary storage medium.
