Player Spends 5,900 Hours in Red Dead Redemption 2, but on Google Stadia – Could Lose It All Now

Many were caught off guard by the end of the “Google Stadia” gaming platform. But there is hardly a player as hard as the YouTuber “ItsColourTV”, because he practically lives a second life in Rockstar’s fantastic game “Red Dead Redemption 2”: He has spent 5,900 hours in Red Dead Online. But this virtual life could now abruptly move into eternal cowboy heaven.

This was the news of the week:

  • With the Stadia platform, Google wanted to offer a competitor to PS5 and Xbox Series X that does not require expensive gaming hardware. Gamers could play on a smart TV without a console or gaming PC, didn’t have to download games and patches, but could stream everything.
  • Google put a lot of money and resources into the platform, wanted to set up studios and release their own titles.
  • But the platform failed to establish itself in the market. The idea fell through with core gamers and most casual gamers still don’t know what Google Stadia is to this day. Therefore, Google has now announced the end of the service as of January 18, 2023.

I put €1,000 and all my hopes in Google Stadia – now it’s all for naught

This player is hit particularly hard: YouTuber ItsColourTV has spent 5,907 hours or 246 days playing Red Dead Online, Red Dead Redemption 2’s online mode.

Despite little development from Rockstar, Red Dead Online is a great way for hardcore fans to spend some “outdoor time”: Rockstar’s detailed Wild West simulation encourages just hanging out in the sandbox of the world, the scenery enjoy and pursue his activities there.

ItsColourTV says he spent most of his time in Red Dead Online with friends, hanging out with them and gossiping a lot.

Many would have wished for DLCs for Red Dead Redemption 2, but it never got that far:

New shooter Evil West looks like the DLC everyone wants for Red Dead Redemption 2

The player points out that he even had an outstandingly good experience in the game on Stadia

I think Stadia was the best experience with Red Dead Online because it had dedicated servers. Everyone [auf einer anderen Plattform] complained about the animal spawns and other server-related things, but it was hardly noticeable on the Stadia.

Player is now afraid of losing everything in Red Dead Redemption 2

What is the problem? Red Dead Online does not have cross-progression, progression is tied to Stadia. However, Rockstar does not currently offer a way to transfer Stadia saves to another platform.

This is exactly what ItsColourTV asks the manufacturer to do. A single, one-time character transfer from Stadia would save his character: otherwise all his progress, all the items he earned would be gone in January 2023.

The YouTuber says he’s not just concerned about himself – like him, many have been affected by the closure of Google Stadia. Not only does he lose his personal progress, but also the contact with friends that he has built up over the years.

People write to him:

  • They wouldn’t have any other platform to play Red Dead Redemption 2 there, just a “lousy MacBook”.
  • Another says he’ll probably have to buy an Xbox, get Red Dead Redemption 2 again and then pay a monthly subscription fee.

Does that happen? The story has at least caused a stir: the original tweet now has over 5,000 likes, many large US sites have picked up the story – maybe Rockstar can still soften.

For some players, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the fulfillment of all their dreams:
