LoL radically overhauls the jungle – Riot changes pathing and items, lets you walk a pet

With the start of the Worlds on September 29th, 2022, the end of the 12th season of League of Legends is getting closer and closer. We listened to those responsible at Riot Games for the next season. They are planning changes in the jungle, and you can choose one of three different pets to walk the rift with.

The jungle is being revised again:

  • Changes are made to the jungle role and the jungle pretty much every season.
  • The last time Riot Games did a great job of jungle was in Season 11.
  • Jungle adjustments affect the entire map and affect the gameplay as the role is sometimes the most influential on the Rift.

Here’s a video of Bel’Veth, a jungler pick for Preseason 13:

The jungle is becoming more beginner-friendly

What are these new pets? In the roundtable, the developers presented that the traditional jungle items will be replaced by pets. These pets evolve through treats as the game progresses.

You can get treats by defeating enemy champions and jungle monsters – or by growing your pets over time. As your pets get bigger, you’ll get upgrades for your champion.

First of all: There are 3 different types of pets:

  • The Salamander: According to advance information, it will be a green pet that will give you defensive stat improvements. In addition, it gives you a shield and a bonus to toughness.
  • The Fox: The blue fox gives you more stats for mobility. It increases your movement speed and gives you more utility in general. You can get more detailed information here if we hear more.
  • The Cat: This is the aggressive pet option. It gives you extra damage and slows down enemies.

What does “beginner-friendly” mean? The focus of the new season is to make it easier for new players to get into the role. However, Riot does not want to reduce the complexity that the jungle brings with it if you really know your way around the role.

There will be changes to monster aggro levels. This is to show more clearly when you lose aggro from the monsters. The monsters lose their aggro faster the further away they are from their camp, so it shouldn’t be that easy to defeat two camps at the same time in the preseason.

In addition to the aggro level of the monsters, recommendations are displayed in the game. The developers said they evaluated many different games from the pros and higher ranked players to recommend the best options for you.

In addition to recommendations for the jungle route, recommendations for items and runes are also displayed. This option is primarily intended to inspire new players for the role who have never been to the jungle before or who want to find their way back in.

Other adjustments affecting the jungle: In addition to the easier entry, there will be new items that can affect your champion selection. New mythical items will be added, while, for example, the Sunfire Aegis will become a legendary item.

Basically, the changes to the items can be summarized on the tank role. The new Mythic items will give you the options to endure more while engaging in combat more effectively.

As a tank, you are no longer just a champion who stands around and takes damage, but can actively help your team. On the other hand, there will be items that turn you into absolute front shields. So jump into the fray and fight like hell.

How do you feel about the changes? Will you try out the role and which pet do you think is the most suitable for your champion?
