LoL: Riot Games tells us how they rework the problem dragon

We were at the Riot Games roundtable for you. Changes to the dragons were presented there. Dragons are similarly important targets in League of Legends as the Baron. The chemtech dragon had to be retired in 2022, but Riot is bringing back the dragon with new abilities.

Why is Riot picking up the topic again? After the chemtech topic gained more attention through the Arcane series from Riot Games, the interest of the community also grew. Patrick Noonan, Executive Producer, and Matthew Leung-Harrison, Executive Designer, are working on the preseason and told us more.

The Chemtech Dragon was removed from the game at the start of Season 12 because it gave the winning team a far greater advantage than was reasonable. He revived you and you could continue fighting for a few seconds.

This gave the team with the dragon soul too much of an advantage. The losing team only got a bigger disadvantage over time and didn’t have a real chance to turn the game around. Instead of dumping the dragon in the Void, Riot is now retrieving it for the 2023 preseason.

The dragon was introduced last year. Here’s what it looked like back then:

The pre-season 2022 starts in LoL today – these are the most important innovations in the video

Chemtech is now injected to get stronger

What makes the new, old dragon? The new Chemtech Dragon is quite different from the old Chemtech Dragon. While the theme of Ancient Dragon was death defying, Preseason takes a fresh approach. It’s meant to be reminiscent of how to deal with chemtech from Arcane, the League of Legends Netflix series.

You get this improvement by killing the dragon: It provides your team with a 5% buff to tenacity and healing/shield power for each kill. The Dragon Soul gives you 10% bonus damage and damage reduction when below 50% health.

Here you can see the Chemtech Dragon as it was presented in 2022, pictures for 2023 will follow

Summoner’s Rift gets a makeover with the Chemtech Rift. The League of Legends chief designer said that they were inspired by Zaun and everything gets a toxic coat of paint. However, this will only bring about visual changes, except for the plants.

For example, the bang cones get a much longer range and the Seer Flower gives you a run speed boost. This occurs when you run towards enemies who are exposed. The honey fruit will be filled with life – this means that it will no longer slow you down and will give you a small bonus shield.

LoL gets a vote for the dragon fight: Tools for better communication will also be addressed as part of the changes for the pre-season. The players should get a larger range of pings. The ping wheel will be expanded by 4 more commands and there will be more votes.

The pings denote the behavior on the lane. “Hold” (stop) and “Push” (press) are commands for dealing with the minions. While “Hold” means that the minions are not killed, “Push” should push the minion wave into the opponent’s tower. “Bait” and “All In” (attack) are orders against the opposing summoner.

If the dragon is pinged, then a team-wide vote will take place as to whether that dragon is worth fighting for at all. This gives you the opportunity to get the opinions of your teammates before you decide to gamble and give it a try.

In addition, the eyes are addressed. The ping wheel is enhanced by two messages. “Sight Required” and “Sight Cleared” are intended to give players on the map more communication support. This will make it easier for you to communicate with the jungler or support and say what you need.
