Fran Townsend will take up a new position at Activision Blizzard despite some serious scandals. Instead of scrutinizing the company’s processes, she will work more closely with CEO Bobby Kotick in the future.

One of the most problematic individuals in communications surrounding the sexism lawsuits against Activision Blizzard, Fran Townsend, will step down as Corporate Affairs and Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) to pursue a new role at Activision Blizzard. Townsend came under public fire in late 2021 when she sent a circular to employees tried to downplay accusations of sexism in the company.

CEO Bobby Kotick called the email “Tonedeaf” at the time. It later turned out that Kotick had personally approved the mail. The troubled duo of Townsend and Kotick for Activision Blizzard will continue to be part of the company. Although Townsend is stepping down from her position as CCO, she will continue to work closely with Kotick and management.

As the Wall Street Journal reports, Townsend will be a senior advisor to CEO Bobby Kotick and the rest of the board of directors, while her previous duties will be split between senior vice presidents Jen Brewer and Luci Altman. “She worked tirelessly and successfully through a difficult time for the company with leadership, conviction and grace,” Kotick wrote in an email to employees.

“Fran has also done an excellent job of improving rigorous governance and compliance programs across the company.” continues CEO Bobby Kotick.
