Pokémon Go, Ingress, Pikmin Bloom: Poké coins and Co. are becoming more expensive
The people at Niantic, who develop Pokémon Go, Ingress and Pikmin Bloom, announce a price increase for the in-game currencies that you can buy in the in-game shops; such as the Poke coins in Pokemon Go. The triggers for this are changes to the price levels in Apple’s App Store, and the price adjustments are also made in Pokémon Go and Co. on Android platforms.
If an app developer wants to sell virtual objects via his app, then not only he himself decides on the price, but also the provider of the purchase transaction. In the case of the smartphone provider Apple, there are so-called price levels for all items in the app store, to which the developer must adhere. And it’s no secret that every transaction made in the game leaves the store operator with some money.
Apparently the Apple folks are planning to make price tier adjustments via the App Store starting October 5, 2022 – and this will also affect the prices for the in-game currencies of Pokémon Go, Pikmin Bloom, and Ingress, like those, starting October 5, 2022 Notify Niantic Manager. In a nutshell: In the case of Pokémon Go, Poké coins are becoming more expensive.
What will the new prices be like?
It is not yet known how the prices for the Pokécoin bundles in Pokémon Go will change. One thing is clear: the prices will also be adjusted on other platforms, i.e. Google Play and Samsung, and not just for iOS users. You currently pay the following prices for Poke coins in Pokemon Go via iOS:
- 100 PokéCoins cost 0.99 euros
- 550 PokéCoins cost 4.99 euros
- 1,200 PokéCoins cost 9.99 euros
- 2,500 PokéCoins cost 19.99 euros
- 5,200 PokéCoins cost 39.99 euros
- 14,500 PokéCoins cost 99.99 euros
The folks at Niantic commented, “We know that price and currency changes are important to our community across all Niantic games – Pokémon Go, Ingress, and Pikmin Bloom. We would therefore like to look ahead and advise that in-game currency prices for some players will go up as early as October 5. This update is due to changes in App Store price tiers. We will be making similar changes on other mobile platforms as well. While we won’t be taking immediate action in response to this change, we will will monitor the impact and discuss how to deal with the changed conditions on a global scale.”
Does Niantic catch this somehow?
All countries in the euro region as well as Chile, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, South Korea, Sweden and Vietnam are affected by the increases. We will keep an eye on the changes and report back to you as soon as possible. In order to catch a possibly higher price, the Niantic people could increase the amount of coins in the bundles. Whether that will happen, however, remains to be seen. Because that’s what the developers of Pokémon Go and Co. seem to want to do first: wait and see.
