The PS5 Has Been Hacked Successfully – What’s the Benefit Anyway?
The PS5 was successfully hacked 2 years after release. But what does it actually do and who benefits from it?
The PS5 has been successfully hacked. At least that’s what one user reported on Twitter. The hack is now online and you can try it yourself. The hackers use a vulnerability in WebKit to bypass the PS5’s security.
WebKit is a free HTML rendering engine that can be used to display web pages in web browsers. You use WebKit, for example, when you open the browser on the PS4 or PS5.
PS5: What is the point of such a hack and how legal is it?
What is a jailbreak anyway? The hack is not an official way. Because for a so-called “jailbreak” hackers use weak points in the operating system or the hardware to install foreign code. Such attacks usually work until the manufacturer plugs the hole.
Jailbreaking gives you full access to the root of the operating system and access to all features. Also features that normal users should not have access to. You break (jailt) out of the normal range of functions.

What brings such a jailbreak? A jailbreak usually bypasses the security measures of console manufacturers. You can install third-party software that is not officially approved or install illegal versions of games.
By the way, jailbreaking is not illegal either, but a gray area. It only becomes illegal as soon as you install copied software or otherwise violate digital copyright law. You should also be aware that the warranty claim for your device expires.

Anyone who now hopes to be able to install pirated copies or third-party software on the PS5 should be disappointed. So far, the exploit has allowed users read and write access, but no execution rights. So you can’t install anything and you can’t install your own operating system.
In addition, the way to “jailbreak” is still quite complicated. On the one hand you have to install Python, on the other hand you have to run a web server on a PC in order to access your PS5. The hacker “SpecterDev” himself explains that there is still “a long way to go” until a game is installed (via camouflage.info).
