Energy label for vacuum cleaners

There is currently no energy label for vacuum cleaners – it is to be introduced in 2024. Until then, you can use the wattage of the devices as a guide. By the way: If you are wondering why there are no vacuum cleaners with more than 1,000 or even 2,000 watts: A new EU regulation has been in effect since 2017, according to which vacuum cleaners may consume a maximum of 900 watts.

The model The PC-BS 3038 from Profi Care differs from the models mentioned above in two main ways: on the one hand, it is a stick vacuum cleaner, on the other hand, it is suitable for allergy sufferers.

You don’t drag a stick or stick vacuum behind you like the other devices on this list. Instead, all components are attached to the intake manifold. Stick vacuums are more compact, but are a bit heavier in the hand. This design can still be an advantage, especially in confined spaces.

The Profi Care vacuum cleaner is suitable for allergy sufferers because it has a HEPA filter. It catches more than 99 percent of pet hair, pollen and dust particles so that they do not get out of the vacuum cleaner.

The Profi Care PC-BS 3038 works without a bag and offers an output of 600 watts. With a length of 6.5 meters, the cable enables a large radius of action. This vacuum cleaner is also particularly suitable for vacuuming sofas, beds and other upholstered furniture: with one click you can turn it into a compact handheld vacuum cleaner without a long suction pipe.

The scope of delivery includes four nozzles or attachments: hard floor brush, switchable floor brush as well as a crevice and a brush nozzle.

You don’t want to struggle with an annoying cable, but want to be completely flexible? Then you need a cordless vacuum cleaner. They can be very practical for small, very crooked apartments. However, be aware that in return for maximum flexibility, you have to accept some compromises.

The model The Koenic KVR 21621 has an output of 150 watts. With the 2,000 mAh battery, you can vacuum for a maximum of 30 minutes on the higher of two levels – which is a very good value for a cheap cordless vacuum cleaner. If the battery is empty, it takes about five hours to fully recharge.

The dust container of this cyclone vacuum cleaner only holds 250 milliliters, so you have to empty it regularly. The device is particularly compact and light. The scope of delivery includes a crevice nozzle and an upholstery nozzle.

You should pay attention to this when buying a cheap vacuum cleaner

The most important factor in a vacuum cleaner is the suction power. How high it should be depends on what type of floor you want to vacuum. If your home has almost exclusively hard floor coverings such as tiles, parquet or laminate, a model with up to 600 watts is often sufficient. If you have a lot of carpets, maybe even high-pile ones, you are better off with 700 to 900 watts. But also consider: The more watts a vacuum cleaner has, the more electricity it uses.

The second factor is handling. Size and weight are crucial here. If you want to vacuum several floors and have to climb several flights of stairs, you should prefer a smaller, lighter device. The cable length also plays an important role. The length of the cable or the so-called radius of action should be as large as possible so that you don’t have to constantly look for a new socket while vacuuming.

summary

  • If you want to buy a cheap vacuum cleaner, think carefully about what you need. You can most likely do without expensive accessories or smart home connections.
  • Other criteria such as compactness, design and whether the device is suitable for allergy sufferers are more important, if that matters to you.
  • Look at the suction power: 600 watts are usually sufficient for hard floors, but it should be more for deep-pile carpets.
  • Consider other costs that a vacuum cleaner incurs after purchase, such as vacuum cleaner bags and (non-washable) filters.
  • The more watts a vacuum cleaner has, the more electricity it uses. However, since the EU reform of 2017, the differences are no longer all that significant.
