FIFA 23: Free Kick Tutorial - How to shoot perfect free kicks

Free kicks in FIFA 23 play an important role and can decide victory or defeat. We explain the new free-kick system to you and show you 2 damn strong techniques.

Some gameplay changes have been made in FIFA 23, but the most obvious changes are the new corners, penalties and free kicks. We take a close look at the new free kick system and show you how to get the ball behind the line.

How free kicks work in FIFA 23: The new offshoot of the series has completely turned free kicks inside out and now you can decide for yourself where your shooter hits the ball and which free kick variant is executed.

Thats how it works:

  1. Use R2/RT to select the free kick taker.
  2. Use the left stick to direct the shot.
  3. Use the right stick to decide where the ball should be hit and thus determine the free kick variant.
  4. Charge up the power of the shot and hope the ball finds its way into the goal.

It is crucial that you choose the right variant for the right distance. We’ll show you 2 strong variants where, with a little practice and strong shooters, you should be able to convert pretty much every free kick.

2 free kicks that you should definitely practice

Before we start, it must be mentioned that unfortunately there is a guarantee that a free-kick will go in every time. But with enough training and the right technique, it’s possible to get the ball in the net fairly reliably.

However, it is also important that you have a strong free-kick shooter in your team who can show good free-kick stats.

Outer instep with curl

Then you should use it:

  • At distances between 16 and 24 meters
  • When the opponent moves the goalkeeper and closes the short corner.

This is how the variant works:

  1. Choose the right shooter. If you’re standing to the left of the goal, you need to be right-footed, and if you’re to the right of the goal, you’ll need to be left-footed.
  2. Now use the left stick to move the aim assist just to the side of the wall.
  3. Then use the right stick to place the cursor so that it reads “Outstep (Spin)” and note that the aim assist is at shoulder height of the wall.
  4. Now charge the shot bar with about 50 – 60%. Depending on the distance.

If you did everything right, the shot should have flown smoothly into the goal, because currently the outside instep free kick is absolutely unstoppable and should be your best shot at a free kick goal.

The curved free kick

Then you should use it:

  • At distances between 16 and 20 meters
  1. Choose the right shooter. If you are looking at the goal from the right, you need a right foot. For a shot from the left, a left foot.
  2. Now use the left stick to move the aim assist well past the wall.
  3. Then use the right stick to place the cursor so that “Instep (Scurve)” is displayed and note that the aim assist is at shoulder height of the wall.
  4. Now charge the shot bar with about 50%.

If you did everything right, the ball should now wriggle in the net and the goalkeeper and the players in the wall didn’t stand a chance.

Long-distance free kicks: If you want to cover a greater distance, you can try a flutter ball. To do this, you aim right in the middle of the ball and goal and charge the shot bar properly.

However, the flutter balls are not exactly reliable and at the moment it is more a matter of luck whether such a shot goes into the goal.
