Overwatch 2: Free Version is now available

Activision Blizzard: Phil Spencer pleased with acquisition progress

Overwatch 2 is live and free to download now for PC and console.

A new era begins: Overwatch 2 is now available as a free cross-platform download for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Battle.net.

Over the coming years, Overwatch 2 will receive extensive seasonal updates, with features such as new heroes, maps, game modes or cosmetic extras being released at regular intervals.

Players can now log in and play as Kiriko, the recently revealed support hero, or the upcoming tank hero Junker Queen and damage hero Sojourn. Three new game-changing women will round out the playable roster, which now includes 35 heroes.

Also starting today are updated looks for all heroes, numerous overhauls to hero abilities, a new five-on-five multiplayer format, six new maps, the new Boost game mode, a new ping system, a redesigned ranked mode, and much more – all with revised graphics and audio engines.

Additionally, the diverse cast of characters will come alive as never before as the game gains over 40,000 new sayings.

The premium Battle Pass, which grants instant access to new heroes among other benefits, costs 1,000 Overwatch Coins per season (equivalent to 10 euros) and unlocks in-game skins and other content. Each season, players can earn Overwatch Coins through in-game challenges without investing any money themselves. The saved Overwatch Coins can then be used to purchase the Premium Battle Pass or other goodies in the shop.

Launching with Season 1, Overwatch 2 includes cyberpunk themed items for both the free and premium Battle Pass: skins, emotes, victory poses, highlight intros, player icons, weapon charms, sprays, spells and more. The Season 1 Premium Battle Pass includes the first-ever Mythic skin for Genji—a new customizable skin tier in Overwatch 2.

Season 2 will introduce a new yet unreleased tank hero and map to Overwatch 2. A new season will launch every nine weeks, each offering a unique theme and brand new collectibles.

Overwatch 2’s PvE mode is still in development and is expected to be available in the coming year. The exact release plans will be announced at a later date.

“Today marks a tremendous new beginning for the Overwatch community, and we can’t wait for players to experience not only everything that’s releasing now, but everything that’s coming in the months and years to come,” said Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment. “We know gamers expect a vibrant, exciting, action-packed, and polished gaming experience, and we’re excited to exceed those expectations with Overwatch 2. Of course, we also look forward to welcoming new heroes from around the world to PC and console in the bright and hopeful vision of the future that has always represented this gaming universe.”
