Sony explains how long PS4 and PS5 games are exclusive – online games are said to be an exception

How long will games remain exclusive to PS4 and PS5? In an interview with French gaming YouTuber Julien Chièze, Hulst was asked about the possibility of future PlayStation Studios games being released simultaneously for PlayStation and PC. To which he replied (via gamespot.com):

We as PlayStation Studios have a very symbiotic relationship with the platform. We’re often the first developers to try new hardware and new controllers… It’s really great for teams to see their wonderful creations being released on PC, often with the help of our newly acquired team [Nixxies Software]. There are more players and that really helps.

I think in the future we’ll have at least a year between releases on… PlayStation and on the PC platform [warten].

Are there any exceptions? Yes, there really are. These should be about live service games. These are games that you play online, for example, or that receive regular updates and are developed over the long term. Hulst explained that these live service games would play a special role. So he said:

Live service games are a little different because you want to have a really strong community and engagement when you go live. In the case of our live service offerings, we could work day and night with PC and PlayStation.
