Electronic Arts today officially released a trailer for the latest installment in its popular racing game series need for speed announced. The video, which you can watch directly below this news, provides a first insight into the look & feel of Need for Speed Unbound. What is particularly striking is the selected and unusual graphic style. While the environment and cars are shown very realistically, the figures are integrated as cartoon characters. In addition, the implementation of effects such as braking, collisions or spinning tires is realized in a graffiti-like style. Already a few hours before the release, accidentally published screenshots caused a lot of controversy in the community due to a premature product advertisement by the Japanese shop Neowing.

The game itself is located in the freely navigable world of Lakeshore City, in which you have to fight your way up from the absolute beginner to the top of the local racing scene, as is typical for the series. In addition to the story campaign, there will also be a multiplayer mode in which friends or random opponents can compete with each other. In addition to the races, including chases with the police, central game elements will again be the intensive customization of the 144 cars contained in the game. In addition, there will also be the opportunity to customize your own character with hundreds of different clothing items and accessories. The game’s soundtrack was designed with a focus on well-known hip-hop artists, but should still be cross-genre. Collaboration with the artist is highlighted A$AP Rocky, whose new song also provides the background music for the trailer and who also appears as a character in the game itself. After publication, the game will be regularly supplied with new free content, which will be revealed shortly.

All pre-orders of the game will receive exclusive driving effects, license plates, stickers, artwork and $150,000 in-game currency the first time they play multiplayer. There will also be a so-called Palace Edition, which contains four additional cars and various customizing items designed together with the manufacturer Palace Skateboards.

Need for Speed Unbound is scheduled for release on December 2nd, 2022 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
