Electronic Arts: Origin will be replaced by new EA app

Electronic Arts (Unternehmen) von Electronic Arts

For years, EA relied on its own Origin platform for PC games, which, however, was not necessarily welcomed by players. Origin is now obsolete, but EA has not yet said goodbye to its own client.

Instead, it’s just replacing Origin with the new EA app, which has been in open beta for a while. Now the publisher takes the next step and released the new client. Origin, meanwhile, is about to be retired.

EA app: This is what the new client offers

Compared to Origin, the new EA app should be faster and, above all, slimmer. They have also optimized the design and implemented both automatic game downloads and background updates.

You can also link your friends list to other platforms such as Steam or the PlayStation Network. This way you can also see in the EA app which games your friends are currently playing and you can make appointments with them.

Apart from that, the EA app remains quite classic and mainly serves as a place to go for your EA games.

Migration for existing Origin users

Players who have previously used Origin don’t have to worry either: According to EA, you should soon be able to switch to the new EA app with your entire game library. There is no exact date for this yet, but all affected users will receive an invitation to do so.

In addition to your games, including those already installed, all local and cloud saves should also be transferred. This also applies to your existing friends list, which will be fully adopted. In this regard, EA promises, at least in theory, a move without any loss.
