Rings of Power: This happens in episode 7

Rings of Power: The Hairy Feet

Ash, ash, ash everywhere. At least that’s how it looks in the area whose inhabitants celebrated the victory over Adar until very recently. Galadriel and Theo sneak through this chaos in search of other survivors. So far, the two have not had much to do with each other, now the Elbe is trying to help her companion to process the things he has just seen. During the conversation it turns out that Galadriel has not only lost her brother, but also her husband Celeborn, although it remains unclear how exactly she means that.

Eventually the two reach what remains of the Númenoreans. Things are not looking good: Halbrand is injured, Míriel is blind and Elendil misses his son Isildur. At least Theo gets back together with his mother and Arondir. Thus weakened, the survivors decide to retreat to an old Númenorean base that used to serve as a colony. The Númenoreans themselves return to their island, leaving only a small band to help the locals. Galadriel in turn wants to report to the Elves. She has no one with her other than Halbrand.

Fire under Khazad-dûm

With the Southlands transforming into the land of Mordor, the Harfeet are also struggling. The grove they were headed for is at the foothills of destruction, and instead of delicious fruit, only ashes await them there. The stranger who accompanies Nori and her family tries to fix the charred trees, but after his powers start showing side effects again, he decides to leave the group. Probably just in time, because the three mysterious figures who are pursuing the stranger catch up with the harfeet. After a confrontation in which the tribe narrowly escapes annihilation, Nori decides to warn the stranger of his pursuers.

The scenario in which Elrond and Durin find themselves is not quite as dramatic.

Rings of Power: Elrond and the Dwarves

Although Durin explains the plight of the elves to his father, he remains stubborn about the mithril. That doesn’t stop Elrond and Durin from searching for the valuable ore on their own, but no sooner have they found a large vein than Durin’s father catches on to them. Elrond is banished from Khazad-dûm and Durin excluded from the line of succession. What no one knows, the dwarves’ labors have already awakened something that has slept beneath Khazad-dûm for centuries: a Balrog.

Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power also interweaves its own ideas with the pieces from Tolkien’s Middle-earth in “The Eye”, which Amazon was allowed to use for the series. How well this works varies from time to time. The old Númenorean colony, to which the southerners flee, is part of what later became the kingdom of Gondor and is therefore a nice detail for Tolkien fans. Galadriel’s husband Celeborn, on the other hand, is alive and kicking with Tolkien, while his fate in the series remains unknown. Why the series makers mentioned this detail now of all times remains open for the time being.
