Super Mario takes to the big screen – again! This time, however, it’s a very different movie than Super Mario Bros. did in 1993. Now there is a first trailer for the new animated film, which was presented yesterday at a small Nintendo Direct show of its own. And what we saw there really looks very promising.

This is what the new Super Mario Bros movie looks like in the first trailer

The Super Mario Bros. Movie – First Trailer shows Mario, Toad, Bowser and Luigi in action

At first glance, what you see here looks really convincing. The look fits, Bowser is right, really mean and Super Mario ends up in the Mushroom Kingdom. Toad and Luigi are also part of the game, there is even a full penguin kingdom and lots of humor. Only Princess Peach is currently missing any trace.

Super Mario Bros Movie: The Voice Actors Are… Okay?

There was a lot of debate about this beforehandwhether Chris Pratt fits as the original voice of Mario (via: kotaku). Now it’s clear: It’s working out to some extent, even if it seems quite strange that Mario just doesn’t seem to have an Italian accent anymore. But maybe that’s better. Here at polygon you can listen to the all-Italian synchro, by the way.

JackBlack definitely fills his role as Bowser very well. That really fits like the proverbial fist in the eye and already sounds like an absolute highlight of the whole film. It doesn’t matter if you like Jack Black or not. Anyway, Bowser seems to be getting a lot of space here and this could be pretty cool.

The new Super Mario movie trailer is already delivering meme material

Everything so colorful: All in all, the film trailer hits the atmosphere and the look of the many Super Mario games of the last few years almost surprisingly well. Apparently, fears in this regard were unfounded. Bowser’s aura couldn’t be darker, and it’s just fun to see the colourful, friendly Mushroom Kingdom like this.

Super Mario himself looks pretty convincing too. However, for better or worse, he has to live with the fact that he will be used in many, many memes and reaction GIFs from now on.
