Deathloop: Is actually part of the Dishonored universe

At first glance, Dishonored and Deathloop seem quite different: Of course, the two Arkane games share a few skills and the first-person perspective. Beyond that, the two games are still quite different.

For example, while Dishonored is set in the 19th century, in Deathloop you are in the 1960s. This is noticeable visually and playfully, especially in the choice of weapons. Still, both games are linked, as evidenced by Arkane Lyon’s creative director Dinga Bakaba in the official Xbox podcast right now confirmed.

Deathloop is set in the future of Dishonored

Speculations about Deathloop and Dishonored taking place in the same universe, guessed Players since the release of the action game. Again and again, individual fans of the Arkane games have stumbled upon hints that suggested this conclusion. The ending in particular was a more than clear indication for many.

The developers have not yet officially confirmed this theory – and for good reason. According to Bakaba, they deliberately waited so long for the community to find all the clues and subtle hints the team was hiding. He himself really enjoyed how the players gradually put together the individual pieces of the puzzle and then speculated about them.

“Yes, we envisioned Deathloop taking place in the future, after Death of the Outsider,” confirms Bakaba. But they didn’t necessarily want to communicate that to the outside world at the beginning, because Deathloop was supposed to stand on its own. Internally, however, they have been thinking for a long time about what the future of the specially conceived universe could look like after the last Dishonored game.

Lots of hints – but not always direct

Ultimately, they came to the conclusion that Deathloop could be such a future. For this reason, you will find hints of this over the course of the game, which are sometimes more and sometimes less obvious.

His favorite secret, Bakaba says, can be found on a specific shotgun. A small logo is hidden there, which was hardly visible until recently. After an update, however, there are now animations in which the character plays with the weapon and all sides become visible. As a result, the logo is now clearly recognizable: It is the Dunwall Tower from Dishonored.

“We tried to see everything as a progression, but every time the past was mentioned, we were either vague enough or obfuscated the names in what I would call a natural way,” concludes Bakaba.
