All Big Streamers Want Less Ads On Twitch – But One Says To The Boss “Bro Give Me Longer Ads”

Riot makes LoL easier – expert fears it will be like WoW, soon no longer requires brains and skills

The biggest Twitch streamers have been discussing the future of the platform for a few weeks. Well-known names such as Asmongold or xQc are in favor of less advertising. Only one streamer breaks this pattern: Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkamp.

What’s happening on Twitch right now?

  • In September, those responsible for Twitch announced that the big streamers would receive less money in the future. As of June 2023, the special rule that allows some streamers to get 70% of their revenue from subscribers once they earn more than $100,000 will be lifted.
  • Twitch’s chief financial officer explains that large streamers like MontanaBlack will earn about $500,000 less per year in the future.
  • Twitch justifies this by saying that it should ensure more fairness among streamers and cover the rising costs of the platform. In return, the shares in advertising revenue were increased for everyone.
  • However, many streamers are bothered by the advertising and would rather reduce it.
  • At TwitchCon, some of them met Twitch officials. There Tyler1 is said to have asked for a button for longer advertising.

Anyway, Tyler1 is a streamer with a very interesting career:

How Twitch’s worst troll became the face of League of Legends

“People get 40 hours of free content, watch the damn ads”

What exactly did the streamer say? The well-known streamer xQc chatted inside the box in his live stream and shared this story. He reports that all the streamers in the room asked for the ads to be reduced.

Then Tyler1 is said to have raised his hand and said the following to the Twitch employee:

Bro, can we get a button for five minutes of ads at a time, please? The three minute button is good but I need one for five. I don’t care. People get 40 hours of free content, look at the damn ad!

Tyler1 himself confirms the statement in his stream. He says that he only runs the ads before or after a LoL match and then nothing would happen anyway.

Anyone who hasn’t taken out a subscription (which means the channel is ad-free) or couldn’t configure the ad blocker properly wouldn’t have deserved it any better. It wouldn’t matter if the commercial ran for three or five minutes.

How do other streamers see it? They deal with this topic much more seriously than Tyler1.

Asmongold, one of the biggest MMORPG streamers ever, calls for a reduction in advertising. He criticizes that you have to watch up to six commercial blocks when you call up a stream. If you then switch out of the tab because you don’t want to actively look at the advertising, it would crash again and again. And that’s super frustrating for viewers.

Asmongold goes as far as to claim: “Excessive advertising is killing Twitch” (via Twitter).

Valkyrae also claims that advertising scares off part of the audience. She has now switched to YouTube, but still comments on the development of the platform:

DrDisrespect and Valkyrae lash out at their former home, Twitch: “Has become a pretty crappy platform”

What do you think about advertising on Twitch? Have you noticed her negatively lately or are you ignoring her anyway?
