New Battle Royale instantly has 40,000 players on Steam, but one thing is really bugging them

With Super People (PC), a new battle royale has appeared on Steam that has a special trick. Players take on the role of characters with special superpowers. The gameplay gets praise and attracts many players. But they are mostly annoyed by the skins.

What kind of game is this? Super People is a classic Battle Royale and is very reminiscent of PUBG in terms of appearance, which is also due to the fact that both games are based on the Unreal Engine – in this case the U4:

  • There are modes for solo, duo or trio matches.
  • You can choose to play in first-person or third-person view.
  • You choose one of 13 different soldiers with firearms and special abilities.
  • At the beginning of the game you will be dropped over the map and you can choose a place where you want to land.
  • You start with little and can equip yourself better and better over time. There is even a crafting system like in Realm Royale.
  • In terms of movement and weapons, it’s more reminiscent of Apex Legends.

The highlight are the super abilities that the different classes have. One class can jump particularly high, while another is particularly fast. For example, the sniper can hear the opponent’s heartbeat from a greater distance and thus locate them early on.

How did the game start? There was already a beta in February 2022, in which, according to the developers, 4.3 million different players took part. On October 11th, Super People was released in Early Access on Steam – and it was completely free. The game is Free2Play and relies on a cash shop.

Right on the release day, 45,297 players watched the Battle Royale at the same time in Peak (via SteamDB). And although the gameplay gets a lot of praise, the final release version also gets harsh criticism.

Despite a lot of praise, 52% rate the game negatively on Steam and blame the skins

How is the rating? Currently, as of October 12 at 4:00 p.m., Super People only has 48% positive reviews out of 1,360 ratings on Steam. It is curious that even many negative reviews praise the basic gameplay.

The big criticism is for the shop. It’s not Pay2Win, but it sells many cosmetic skins for real money:

  • The soldiers are said to look very bad in their basic version, which is why many would like to buy skins.
  • However, these skins only last for 3, 5 or 7 days. After that, they are simply taken from the players again.
  • In addition, some skins that could be earned in the beta were banished to the shop in the finished release version.

In many cases, the reviews of the game read like this:

The gameplay is great, but the item shop sucks. You buy skins and you don’t even get to keep them! They are only temporary! WTF, such a stupid thing.

Excellent gameplay but very cheating cash shop.

Are there any other points of criticism? Yes, some users are complaining about crashes, glitches and graphic bugs, as is the case with many new releases these days. In addition, the interface of the shop and the general inventory should be very confusing and difficult to manage.

The gameplay, on the other hand, is hardly ever criticized in negative reviews. In the positive reviews, almost everyone praises the fun combat system and some players are already calling it the “better PUBG”. Many are hoping that the Korean developer Wonder Games will improve the shop and make a really good game out of Super People.

What do you think of Super People? Does a new battle royale with additional skills and crafting system appeal to you? Or have you had enough of the genre by now?
