Diablo Immortal now lets you craft the best items for free, but there are two catches

Diablo Immortal has received a new update and this includes some new features, including a new currency: Telluric Pearls. With these you can buy the coveted legendary gems and even for free. But you have to grind for quite a while for it.

It’s about these items: Legendary gems are largely responsible for your strength. They have various effects that make many class builds really useful. You can get legendary gems for free or buy them with real money.

They increase the efficiency of your remaining equipment through so-called resonance and can only be obtained quickly with a large investment of real money. Legendary gems are therefore considered to be the big Pay2Win factor in Diablo Immortal.

This is new now: Telluric Pearls are the new currency in Diablo Immortal. With these you can buy specific legendary gems with 5 stars from the master jeweler. There are 3 sources to get the pearls:

  • for 800 Hilt at the Hilt dealer in Westmark (1x week)
  • by participating in time-limited events
  • for real money in the shop as part of certain bundles

After the change that you can get more Legendary Emblems, Telluric Pearls are a new way to get Legendary Gems for free. However, you will have to spend a lot of time.

What’s the catch? The new system has two problems. The first is that according to reports you can only get 2/5 star gems. The gems are then still in the category of the most powerful items (5* gems), but they are on the weakest rank there.

The stars can be upgraded, but they come with even more grind. And that’s huge anyway. Because the second problem is that you need 40 pearls for a gem. Since you’re only guaranteed to get one pearl per week for free, that means up to 40 weeks of grind – or just over 9 months.

Of course, this only applies if you don’t want to spend any money. We don’t yet know how many pearls there will be in the events. In any case, count on several months of pure grind.

“It’s still a good deal”

Is it even worth it? While the grind sounds like a lot, according to some hardcore players, it’s better than almost every other option currently in play for Free2Play players (via reddit).

A 2/5 star gem comes with the pearls for 32,000 hilt and is worth 32 gem power. Gem Power is needed to upgrade other legendary gems, and it doesn’t matter which gem you shred to do so.

The best alternative so far has been to buy Ca’arsen’s Empowerment, a 1-star Gem, or a Legendary Emblem. Both cost 1,600 Hilt and give Gem Power – or a little more if you’re lucky.

However, 2/5-star gems are very popular for upgrading because they are relatively easy to get. It’s a long grind with the pearls, but still better than the alternatives.
