Free at Epic Games: horror survival with 94 approval from now, fallout next week

from Thilo Bayer
Since 5 p.m. there are new free games at Epic Games. Somewhat surprisingly, Epic has included a second title that promises horror survival. And next week there are two big names.

And another week is over in which bargain hunters were able to hit two games at Epic. After two “hell” games in pixel optics, we continue with two very different titles.

This week: Darkwood and ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove!

Let’s start with Darkwood. The August 2017 game aims to be a take on the survival horror genre – and we mean that literally, playing Darkwood from a bird’s eye view. During the day, players explore a “rich open world” that is constantly changing, but at night you should hide in your hiding place – and “pray that the sun will rise soon”. The reviewers are enthusiastic about Epic’s competitor Steam, and not every game has 94 percent approval from 12,000 players.

The game is likely to be much less well known ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! which was released in March 2019 and aims to combine the “best features of classic console games with tons of new improvements”. After all, the competitor Steam has an approval of 91 percent, despite or because of the retro graphics. The “funky, rouge-like adventure laced with classic hip-hop” is said to be reminiscent of the 1991 original. “Team up in co-op mode to find secret locations, hidden gifts, and new friends as you make your way through an ever-changing and unpredictable world.” Everyone probably knows what it’s about now.

Next week: Evoland and Fallout 3

But also the preview of the coming week from 20.10. is always interesting. And Epic unpacks two well-known titles. The Evoland Legendary Edition offers two unusual role-playing games whose graphic style and gameplay change over the course of the game. Release was in February 2019, the developer is currently working on Dune: Spice Wars.

Title number 2 for the coming week is no less well known: Fallout 3 GOTY is doing the honors. It was released in October 2009, has nearly 30,000 user reviews on Steam, and includes all five Fallout 3 game add-on packs. So the coming week will be tough.
