Unlocking Rewards

You receive rewards for completing certain “campaigns” and activities. in the official blog post For example, Sony lists launching a game each month as a task. Other campaigns are aimed at trophy hunters, who are not only motivated to unlock a specific trophy, but also to be the first person in a region or country to bag the platinum trophy of a newly released title.

Those are the collectibles

The digital collectibles are stylishly modeled, virtual figures of iconic characters and popular devices, such as consoles and their accessories, from Sony’s history.

The first collector’s items that you can unlock from October include, for example, Toro and Kuro – two cats that serve as Sony mascots, especially in Asia – and the PocketStation memory card extension, which appeared for the PS1 and had a small display . You will also receive a virtual representation of a telescope for joining.

This is what the collectibles will look like:

There will be new digital collectibles to unlock on a regular basis, some of which will be extremely rare. If you have received a rarity, you can display it in your profile like any other collector’s item. Incidentally, the figures are not unique, and they cannot be traded.

The points system explained

For many completed tasks you get points that you can redeem in a reward catalogue. In the catalog you will find:

  • Games from the PSN store (currently: Sekiro for 15,000 points, Hades for 6,250 points, Cult of the Lamb for 6,250 points, It Takes Two for 10,000 points, The Quarry for 17,500 points)
  • PSN Balance (5 euros for 1,250 points, 20 euros for 5,000 points)
  • More digital collectibles

This is how status level works

PlayStation Stars also has a status level that you increase by purchasing games and earning Rare, Very Rare and Ultra Rare trophies. So Sony doesn’t focus on the “value” of a trophy, but on its rarity, so that you don’t boost your status to the maximum in no time with cheap platinum games like My Name is Mayo. As you level up, you gain access to more rewards and benefits.

These are the unlock conditions for the stages and their advantages:

  • Step 1: Signing up for PlayStation Stars will give you a telescope figurine as a welcome gift.
  • Level 2: Buying a full-price game and unlocking a trophy that is at least rare will give you a special collectible item.
  • Level 3: Buy two full-price games and unlock at least 32 rare trophies to get an additional collectible and a figure from Ape Escape.
  • Level 4: Buy four full price games and unlock at least 128 rare trophies if you want to snag a special “Anniversary Collectible” as well as the option to skip the chat support queue.

The preferential treatment of Tier 4 Stars members has already drawn criticism from fans, but Sony is sticking to it so far:

PlayStation Stars: Faster support is a reward – and we hate it

This is what Sony defines as a full-price game: In the PlayStation Store, games are marked as “Full Version” or “Premium Edition”. These count towards the status level in PlayStation Stars. Free games, test versions and demos are excluded. Packages that contain at least one full version also count, but only once. A bundle of four full versions accepts PlayStation Stars as just one full-priced game.

How long you keep your status: Once you gain a new tier, you keep it until the end of the calendar year and for another 13 months beyond. The key date is therefore always January 31, but always with a gap of more than one year.

Secret diamond level: Dataminers have discovered a fifth stage, which has not yet been officially announced. So far, there are no details on this, but it is marked with a label stating that it can only be reached “by invitation”.

When registering, we also stumbled across a graphic that suggests five status levels:

The fact that there are actually five levels is already obvious when registering.
