Nvidia has only just released the RTX 4090 of the 4000 series, when the first offers at exorbitant prices are already ending up on eBay and Co. The horrendous prices there are probably completely wrong, because it is said that some dealers are still getting supplies.

Why does the RTX 4090 cost so much? The release price of the new RTX cards was already almost 2,000 euros recommended retail price (RRP). Nvidia received a lot of criticism for the high price, but the cards didn’t get any cheaper for the release.

As was the case with the PlayStation 5, the new graphics cards quickly ran out of supply, and many retailers quickly ran out of stock. Apparently, scalpers took advantage of this. “Scalpers” are users who specifically buy products with a foreseeable shortage in order to then be able to sell them at a higher price.

In the case of the RTX 4090, the latest high-end card from Nvidia, the GameStar colleagues on the eBay trading platform offers for between 2,800 and 4,500 euros have already been discovered. That’s a hefty price tag compared to the already steep MSRP.

Why the price is not worth it: As the English site PCGamer reports that the scalpers’ prices are completely disproportionate – apart from the fact that they are outrageous anyway. Because many retailers are not completely sold out.

It was only on October 13th that a UK retailer received a new shipment of RTX cards. However, this does not apply to all retailers. The tech chain Box is temporarily sold out and cannot say whether new deliveries will appear.

Nevertheless, PCGamer warns that it is quite possible to get an RTX 4090 at an RRP. In Germany is notebook cheaper the official trading partner of Nvidia, here you can find the Founders Edition of the RTX cards again and again at an RRP. Chains like Saturn and MediaMarkt are also good places to go to get hold of one of the new graphics cards.
