Wishes come true: XXL meerkats as garage art

Five larger-than-life meerkats are the personal lucky charms of Sandra Salzig from Rheine. Every morning when she pulls up the roller shutter on the kitchen window, her first sight is a work of art with the cute mammals. “It immediately puts you in a good mood,” says the animal lover. She won the picture in XXL format that adorns the garage wall opposite as part of the wish-fulfiller campaign organized by WestLotto and the local radio stations in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Real eye-catcher

“When I heard my wish on the radio, I couldn’t believe my luck – of course I called straight away,” reports Sandra Salzig. That was in October last year. However, they still had to be patient until the painted meerkat family of five actually moved into Rheine. After the end of winter and with dry weather, the time had finally come: the renowned Essen artist Bernd Sundermann stayed on site for two whole days to design the 2 x 1.5 meter work of art – a real eye-catcher that passers-by keep coming back to attracts curious looks. “This is by far not the first meerkat picture in my home – but by far the most beautiful,” says Sandra Salzig happily. “The entire neighborhood is also enthusiastic about the cheerful motif on the garage wall.” Why did you choose this animal motif for the wish-fulfiller campaign? Sandra Salzig doesn’t need to think for a moment: “Meerkats are very social and family creatures, just like me. Maybe that’s why they did it to me so much.”
