New Warhammer 40k co-op shooter starts beta now on Steam – Like Left 4 Dead in space

With Warhammer 40k: Darktide, the famous Warhammer universe brings a new co-op shooter in which you fight against chaos with up to 3 other players. The closed beta starts on October 14th on Steam and via GeForce now. Anyone who registers now has a chance of gaining access.

What is this shooter? Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is set in a grim future you probably don’t want to live in: a vast “Hive City” is inhabited by the law-abiding citizens of the Empire, but among them the followers of Chaos plan their rise.

Worshipers of the plague god Nurgle or the seducer Slaanesh are a constant threat. You will be sent into the depths of the mega city to clean up.

Darktide is a new co-op shooter and hack’n’slash game where you face off against hordes of enemies. The game is being created by Fatshark, the team that made Warhammer: Vermintide 2.

Darktide is like Left 4 Dead in 40,000 years

This is what Darktide is all about: The gameplay of Darktide can roughly be imagined as what you already know from classics like Left 4 Dead and Co. Teams of up to 4 players slice their way through different levels and have to be careful not to be overrun.

However, there is one key difference to Left 4 Dead, Vermintide and similar games: you can create your own character. Appearance, voice and origin are customized. There are different classes to choose from, such as:

  • Psyker, a kind of magician
  • sniper
  • Ogryn, the “Heavy Weapons Guy”
  • Preacher, the paladin of the troupe

The enemies are mostly zombie-like, people and monsters deformed by chaos, who make life difficult for you with “simple” cannon fodder and tough elite opponents in the dystopian city.

Where can I register for the beta? You can register for the playtest on the Steam website by clicking on the corresponding button. In our test, we had the invitation in the electronic mailbox a few minutes after sending it.

The developers have already announced that more players can be invited over the weekend. The test runs from 14.-16. October on Steam and GeForce Now. Warhammer 40k: Darktide will be released on November 30th for PC and shortly thereafter for Xbox.
