In a short blog post, the graphics card manufacturer Nvidia has “discontinued” the recently announced RTX 4080 with 12GB of RAM. The reason given by the Californian company was that the card was “wrongly named”. Two (different) graphics cards with the name 4080 are confusing, according to the Nvidia homepage.
In some communities, Nvidia has been accused of renaming a theoretical RTX 4070 to RTX 4080 12GB, which the group now seems to partially admit. However, this should not affect the delivery of the RTX 4080 with 16GB memory or the RTX 4090.
