As Activision clarified in a statement, only PC players need to provide their phone number to play Call of Duty Modern Warfare II.
Just under a week ago, reports began to pile up that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II players would need to link their phone number to their Battle.net account in order to enjoy the upcoming shooter.
On the part of Activision has now been an official Explanation published on the situation and the motives behind the measure called “SMS Protect”. At the same time, the publisher made it clear that the measure would not affect the console versions of the shooter and would only be used on the PC.
“SMS Protect” is a critical tool in “anti-cheat enforcement efforts,” the company said. Call of Duty: Warzone players who already have verified accounts do not need to re-verify for Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will be available on October 28th for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 launches on November 16th.
