Twitch: German streamer wants to switch to sports betting after casino ban – immediately embarrasses himself

German streamer Kevin “orangemorange” Bongers made his name with roleplaying in GTA V. He was criticized for his gambling content on Twitch. Twitch has now put a stop to this, which is why the 29-year-old is apparently looking for new sources of income. With his decision to apply for sports betting now, however, he probably made the wrong decision: orangemorange didn’t even know where the 2022 World Cup was taking place and that it might be problematic to travel there.

What’s behind it? After several major streamers threatened to protest, Twitch announced in September that it would introduce new guidelines for gambling on the platform. These changes went into effect on October 18.

However, gambling streamers quickly realized that not that much had changed: the slots category, in which virtual slot machines were played, was explicitly not banned. Only the sharing of links, affiliate codes and playing on sites that do not meet certain standards of consumer protection were prohibited.

Twitch announced it would restrict gambling – now the new rules are in and a German casino streamer is laughing

However, the online casino Stake, with which many streamers had concluded extremely lucrative deals, is affected by the new guidelines. Now they are probably looking for new cooperation partners.

After all, casino streamers still have income from paid subscriptions.

Prime Gaming, the secret behind Twitch’s success

Bongers: “I sold my soul anyway”

In an Oct. 20 stream, Bongers announced it had acquired sportsbooks as a sponsor.

He joked: Now that he’s sold his soul completely for slots, he can do whatever he wants. He can now do any placement, it doesn’t matter anyway.

What should the deal look like? Bongers told viewers his new sponsor would fly him to Qatar for the World Cup. There he can vlog and have a good time in the VIP box in the stadium.

In return, Bongers only had to “make a few bets online.” The plan was to let the spectators vote on the outcome of a game and then place bets accordingly.

Bongers then asked his chat: Will the sports betting scandal be as big as the slots scandal? The streamer seemed to doubt this, somehow nobody would have such a problem with sports betting as with slots.

But there was no criticism at all because of the bets.

Now he’s being criticized by people who don’t care about casinos but are critical of Qatar

What bothered people? Criticism rained down on Twitter, where a clip of the announcement was shared. The football World Cup in Qatar has been heavily criticized for a long time: human rights violations are said to have occurred during the construction of the stadiums and the necessary infrastructure. In particular, the way guest workers were treated caused horror.

The public broadcasters even brought out a documentary series on the subject: “Qatar – World Cup of Shame”

The comments were accordingly: The highlight video hobbyist for MontanaBlack described it as “disgusting” to support such approaches (via Twitter). Even people who apparently didn’t have such a big problem with the gambling streams went too far:

Bongers gives in: “I didn’t know”

The Twitter user “minzebeere” apparently actually managed to get through to Bongers. He listed the dire conditions said to be working in Qatar. He linked the sports betting provider tipico as a source – Bongers must listen to that.

How did Bongers react to the criticism? Not well at first, some Twitter users claimed to have been blocked by the streamer after voicing criticism (via Twitter). However, Bongers reacted very differently to minzebeere’s post:

Bongers says he didn’t know anything about the situation. Now he will not fly to the World Cup, so the streamer. When asked by his critic, he explained that he was really serious about it and thanked him for the factual criticism.

How is the change of heart coming? The fact that Orangemorange does not want to fly to Qatar meets with general approval (via Twitter). But not everyone believes that he really was clueless. The YouTuber AlphaKevin also expresses criticism:

Orangemorange doesn’t want to let it sit: On October 21, he posted that it was unbelievable how one was attacked for not knowing something.

How things will continue after the casino ban and the current failure with sports betting for Orangemorange remains to be seen.
