Doctor Who: Tired of Disney+? All seasons on Blu-Ray or Prime Video
Doctor Who is on everyone’s lips again. After season 13, the current Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, says goodbye and one of the most popular cast members returns (at least temporarily) as the Time Lord. We don’t want to spoil who that is at this point. The following Doctor has already been confirmed.
The news makes us want to fly through the individual seasons in the TARDIS again and listen to the chaotic stories about the Daleks, Cybermen, the Silence or the Weeping Angels. Many are waiting until next year, because then all seasons of Doctor Who will migrate to the streaming provider Disney +. If you don’t want to wait that long, there are alternatives.
Doctor Who on Prime Video
Doctor Who is offered on many streaming platforms. From MagentaTV to AppleTV. However, it is nowhere in the basic offer without additional costs to look. The best method for most should therefore be Amazon Prime. There are basically two options. You can buy the seasons or episodes individually or you can also subscribe to the BBC Player Channe l. This costs €3.99 in addition to the normal Prime subscription. However, you can test it for free for 7 days. Yes, that’s not enough to watch all seasons (if you still want to sleep in between), but it’s better than nothing. In addition, there are other British series such as TopGear to watch in the BBC Player.
The second option is to place the Blu-Rays on the shelf in the classic way. Then you don’t have to rely on any streaming providers or the German Internet. Both are rather unreliable.
Doctor Who – the new seasons
- Season 1 (Christopher Eccelstone) – After 16 years, the Doctor made a comeback in the form of Christopher Eccelstone. However, the actor left the series after just one season. Also available as Blu-Ray.
- Season 2 (David Tennant) – It was taken over by David Tennant, one of the most popular Doctors of all time. At the side of Rose Tyler he hunted through space and time. Also available as Blu-Ray.
- Season 3 (David Tennant) – After Rose, Martha Jones takes on the role of the Doctor’s companion and we experience the first appearance of the new Master, the renegade Time Lord and eternal antagonist of the Doctor. Also available as Blu-Ray.
- Season 4 (David Tennant) – For many fans, Cathrine Tate as Donna Noble and David Tennant is the best doctor/companion combination in recent history. The Doctor also gets contras in a wonderfully refreshing way and Donna is not the naive companion that was often the norm. Also available as Blu-Ray.
- Season 5 (Matt Smith) – The time of Matt Smith begins, who is currently delighting viewers, especially in House of the Dragon. With his bow tie and companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams, he lights up the TARDIS and Sonic Wrench. Also available as Blu-Ray.
- Season 6 (Matt Smith) – The second season, starring Matt Smith, features some of the best storylines in recent Doctor Who history. The author of these lines particularly likes the stories about Demons Run and the supposed death of the Doctor. Also available as Blu-Ray.
- Season 7 (Matt Smith) – As the season progresses we say goodbye to Rory and Amy and the Doctor travels the universe for the first time with Clara Oswald. Also available as Blu-Ray.
- Season 8 (Peter Capaldi) – As the twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi, who has previously acted as a supporting actor in a number of episodes, gives the Time Lord a slightly more serious face after Tennant and Smith. Also available as Blu-Ray.
- Season 9 (Peter Capaldi) – Alongside Missy, the female incarnation of the Master, Maisie Williams, better known to many as Arya Stark, has a recurring role as an immortal being in several episodes. Also available as Blu-Ray.
- Season 10 (Peter Capaldi) – A new season, a new companion. One of the weaker seasons for many viewers as many of the stories are very convoluted and chaotic even for Doctor Who. Also available as Blu-Ray.
- Season 11 (Jodie Whittaker) – For the first time, the Doctor becomes a woman when he regenerates. Jodie Whittaker plays a great Doctor but didn’t get particularly good stories. Also available as Blu-Ray.
- Season 12 (Jodie Whittaker) – We face a full-scale attack by the Cybermen, who are mercilessly hunting down the last remaining humans. Also available as Blu-Ray.
- Season 13 (Jodie Whittaker) – The final season of the female Doctor has been shortened to include only six episodes which have not yet fully arrived on the BBC player. Also available as Blu-Ray.
In addition to the main series, there are still countless specials, which mostly aired between seasons or around Christmas time, but mostly have no relevance to the overall storyline. Including some very strange animated films with David Tennant.
By the way, if you love Doctor Who as much as we do: Here we have some cool merch stuff for you.
Anyone who has read this far is probably just as big a fan as we are. So finally, the all-important questions: Which season is the best and which Doctor do you think is the best? Tennant, Smith, Capaldi? Or maybe Jodie Whittaker, Eccelstone or one of the earlier Doctors? We are looking forward to your answers.
