Modern Warfare 2 manages the best Steam launch of the Call of Duty series

The launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 seems to have been extremely successful, especially on Steam.

Today is the official release of the shooter and Valve’s platform has already outperformed all other Call of Duty games.

At the time of this report, around 193,000 players are active in the game at the same time (via SteamDB).

The highest level in the past 24 hours is 238,522 players. Modern Warfare 2 is thus among the top 5 most played titles on Steam.

In terms of peak, Modern Warfare 2 is well ahead of other games in the series. This is followed by Black Ops’ Multiplayer with a maximum of 118,593 simultaneously active players – a clear difference.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that there weren’t any problems at launch. Crossplay cannot be deactivated on Xbox and PC, and a first exploit has already been discovered.
