CoD: Modern Warfare 2: Current Nvidia driver causes problems – hotfix in progress

CoD: Modern Warfare 2 – The content for the second beta weekend is known

from Valentin Sattler
The current Geforce driver apparently causes stability problems in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Nvidia has already announced a hotfix that should be available soon.

The new Call of Duty finally came out yesterday, just in time for the weekend. Since 2 p.m., players on the PC as well as on the Xbox and Playstation consoles can Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 compete against each other or play through the single player campaign. Apparently, the gaming experience at the launch is not yet running smoothly, because there are currently problems, at least on the PC. The trigger is Nvidia’s current graphics driver.

Crashes caused by Geforce drivers

According to the Beenox Twitter account, which ported Infinity Ward’s game to PC, the latest Geforce driver 526.47 is causing stability issues. Anyone using the current driver, which is actually recommended shortly after the release, should therefore switch to the older driver 516.59 or 522.25 for the time being. With these there should probably be no or at least fewer crashes.

Nvidia has now also confirmed the situation to PC Gamer: According to this, the company is already working on a hotfix that should fix the stability problems. In addition, these are given as a reason why the current driver 526.47 does not explicitly advertise support for CoD: Modern Warfare 2. in the Driver changelog however, there is no question of a corresponding bug. If Nvidia knew about the problem, they didn’t explicitly warn about it.

It is still unclear when the hotfix for the driver will be released. But it probably won’t be until next week. Anyone who wants to play Modern Warfare 2 over the weekend and has crashes with the current driver should therefore switch to the older versions mentioned. Since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has only just been released, these problems cannot be completely ruled out either – especially since some patches are likely to appear for the game itself.
