That's why Ikea is threatening to sue the developer of a "furniture survival game".

Already in the past we have about the Kickstarter title “The Store is closed” reported. Now he is faced with an impending lawsuit from the Swedish furniture company Ikea. The reason for this is an infringement of trademark rights, as well as possible damage to reputation. In the survival game you have to escape from a huge furniture store after it was closed. The problem, the maker may have been inspired a little too much by his template.

Ikea threatens to sue indie developers

Shaw Jacob, is a small indie developer currently trying to fund his title The Store is Closed via Kickstarter. In survival horror game your task is to escape from “infinite furniture store” while mutated employees try to kill you. So you desperately try to stay alive and build, among other things, weapons or barricades from furniture lying around. But the similarities to the Swedish furniture store don’t stop there.

The trailer clearly shows Shaw making use of the company’s color scheme, among other things. Even he himself called it an “infinite Ikea game”. That’s why Ikea executives wrote a letter to Shaw threatening a lawsuit for trademark infringement and possible reputational damage.

“Their game uses a blue sign and a yellow sign with a Scandinavian name on the store, a building resembling a blue box, and yellow-striped t-shirts worn by Ikea employees […].” The letter lists a number of other similarities. However, the large corporation decides to accommodate the indie developer.
