In CoD MW2, players struggle with shooter crashes. Now the developers have disabled a feature to investigate the issue.
What is the criticism of MW2? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 celebrated its official release last week and the franchise made its return to Steam after disappearing from the platform in 2017 following the release of World War 2.
A few days after the release, the shooter is already struggling with criticism. Players on Steam call CoD MW2 a “Crashing Simulator”. On too reddit fans of the series report that the game crashes very often. The user u/WonderfulBid4989 writes in a post:
The number of crashes on the PC is unacceptable. This game is an AAA title and the crashes my friends and I have had are unbelievable. We weren’t able to play more than 2 games in a row with a group of 6 people.

u/WonderfulBid4989 is obviously not alone with the problem – the post collected over 2,800 upvotes and 816 comments (as of October 31, 2022). User a_cristian_dude also agrees, adding: “I’m literally waiting in the lobby while we all crash one by one trying to join the game.”
In order to investigate a possible reason for the game crashes, the developers of the shooter have now temporarily deactivated an important feature.
Infinity Ward disables weapon customization feature
What are the developers doing? In a statement Twitter Infinity Ward, the developer studio behind CoD MW2, has announced the deactivation of attachment tuning. This probably leads to problems and could be partly responsible for the crashes of the shooter.
The developers want to investigate game crashes for players with 5 custom weapon attachments. Also, they say you need to unequip and re-equip custom attachments to use your loadout.
You can read the full statement here:
We are disabling attachment tuning until further notice to investigate crashes from players with 5 tuned attachments. If you currently have a custom attachment equipped, you will need to detach and re-equip it to use your loadout.

However, this statement does not reveal whether there are other possible reasons for the game crashing.
In this trailer, CoD presented what possibilities the weapon smith can offer if it works:
“Can’t deny it’s an unfinished product”
How are players reacting to the deactivation? There are some players on Twitter who comment on the deactivation. Again and again it is read that they enjoy the game, but the shooter is an unfinished product. It is also said that the feature should remain deactivated.
- Mr_McCarter14 via Twitter: “Take it [das Attachment-Tuning] completely out because nobody asked for it.”
- NasN2O via Twitter: “I was discussing with my IRL friends that it [das Attachment-Tuning] would somehow ruin the game. Making the game too complicated only makes CoD worse.”
- 2Righty via Twitter: “So I guess I wasn’t entirely wrong when I said the game was broken. I’m honestly in love with MW2, but it’s frustrating to see so many glitches in the armory and questing. I was hoping they could at least get that sorted out by release.”
- SouthernCard via Twitter: “This franchise has strayed so far from what it used to be. I’m enjoying MW2, but I can’t deny that it’s an unfinished product.”
- Blakecissel via Twitter: “I’m enjoying the game at the moment, but honestly if we do [Attachment-Tuning] leave it out, it’s a better game.”
What else do the players say about CoD MW2? The latest offshoot of the CoD series already knows how to convince or annoy players at the beginning of its life cycle.
While the lack of a hardcore mode or the benefits for PlayStation players aren’t as well received, the changed movement and the return of the nuke are generating positive reactions.
