Elon Musk plans to charge $20 a month for Twitter account verification
New Twitter owner Elon Musk has given employees his first ultimatum: Meet your deadline to introduce paid verification on Twitter or you’ll be fired.
The directive is to change Twitter Bluethe company’s optional $4.99 monthly subscription that unlocks additional features, in a more expensive subscription that also verifies users.
Twitter currently plans to charge $19.99 for the new Twitter Blue subscription. Under the current plan, verified users will have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue check mark. Employees working on the project were told Sunday that they must meet a November 7 deadline to launch the feature or they will be fired.
Musk has made it clear in the months leading up to his acquisition that he wanted to revamp the way Twitter verifies accounts and handles bots. On Sunday, he tweeted: “The entire verification process is being renewed at the moment.”
