Leaks and copies of God of War Ragnarök that were sold too early cause frustration among the creators

God of War Ragnarok spoiler season has arrived, and that in turn is causing frustration at developer Santa Monica Studios.

The reason for this is apparently some dealers who have already released copies of the game. And those who bought them post said spoilers online.

Several spoilers from later gameplay and even a video showing the ending are said to have surfaced over the weekend.

“A retailer sells the game almost TWO WEEKS before release,” Creative Director Cory Barlog wrote on Twitter. “It’s just so disappointing.”

“Sorry everyone that you guys have to dodge the spoilers if you’re trying to play the game with no prior knowledge. It’s completely stupid that you have to do that. None of us at SMS wanted things to go that way.”

“You know, right now I can really understand the benefit of having just one installer on a physical disc,” he adds, probably alluding to the fact that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is only around 70MB on the PS5 disc occupied and you have to download the rest.

Similarly, Matt Sophos, the game’s Narrative Director, said: “Just stay away from social media, Reddit, YouTube, etc. unless you’re really sure you can mute hashtags and block people. I’m really sorry , if anyone has had our game spoiled in any way. We’ve really tried to keep things fresh and surprising for you guys.”

“Unfortunately, there’s a lot more than one now. Trolls weaponizing spoilers, retailers breaking release dates… you know,” he adds.

God of War Rangarok is coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on November 8th.
