Windows 10 update: what does patch KB5019959 bring?
patch day
For Patchday, Microsoft has put patch KB5019959 on the download list for Windows 10. This has the following security patches in its luggage.
News
On the evening of November 8th, Microsoft started the current patch day for Windows 10 and Windows 11, among other things. As usual, the focus is on currently available security updates. In fact, you can exclude the view of innovations and changes as well as bug fixes. As usual, Microsoft is taking over the content from the end of October (KB5018482), including a OneDrive bug fix that was published separately at the time.
The included security patches from KB5019959 are planned for all currently supported Windows versions. This article focuses on the most common Windows 10. Patch KB5019959 brings 22H2 and Co. to build version 19045.2251. For 21H2, 21H1 and 20H2 (server) it is 19044, 19043 and 19042 respectively with the same four numbers attached.
For the November patch day 2022, Microsoft has its sights set on six zero-day vulnerabilities. One of them (CVE-2022-41128) describes a vulnerability in which computers only have to be on manipulated websites in order to be able to catch malware. Then, with CVE-2022-41073, a vulnerability in the Windows print spooler service is addressed, not for the first time.
Like the security expert Brian Krebs In summary, there are other critical vulnerabilities in the Windows API for cryptography that attackers can use to gain privileges on a per-system basis. Another vulnerability allows bypassing a security service for untrusted files. The other two critical vulnerabilities relate to leaks in Exchange Server that we reported on in October.
In view of the serious security gaps, early patching is recommended. If the update service is on strike, there is a download for KB5019959 of course also in Update Catalog.
