Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0: All information about the Battle Royale successor

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 - Al Mazrah

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is here, but it’s coming soon. Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is upon us and now Activision has a huge load of information released.

We summarize the most important information about Call of Duty: Warzone 2 for you here. Among other things, it is about the release, the preload and the biggest changes compared to the predecessor.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Release and Preload

Probably the most important information in advance: Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will be released on November 16, 2022 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S. The starting shot is at 7:00 p.m.

So that you don’t have to start the download first, there will be a preload for Warzone 2. This will be available on all platforms from November 14 at 7:00 p.m. On the PC you can start the download both via Battle.net and via Steam.

What’s new in Warzone 2?

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 sees itself as a full successor that retains the core Battle Royale principle, but offers some visible innovations. This applies to both the content and the gameplay.

New map: Al Mazrah

Perhaps the biggest innovation can be found in the map: Al Mazrah is completely new and shifts the battle to the fictional desert region of Adal. Anyone who has already played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will recognize some corners there. A total of six multiplayer maps are part of Al Mazrah:

  • Al Bagra Fortress
  • embassy
  • Zarqwa Hydroelectric
  • Taraq
  • Sariff Bay
  • Sa’id

You can get a small overview of the new map in the following image:

The new Gulag 2.0

A new gulag awaits you in Al Mazrah, which gives you the chance in Warzone 2 to get back into the ongoing match after your death. What is new is that the Gulag takes place in 2v2 mode this time and there are two options for the comeback:

  • You shoot the opposing team, and you and your random partner return to the match
  • together with the opposing team, you kill the NPC enemy Jailer in the Gulag, which appears after a certain time, and all four players return

Loadouts are returning

In Call of Duty: Warzone 2, you can revert to your previously assembled loadouts, but there are a few mechanical changes. The loadout drop should no longer be as easy to reach as in the predecessor:

  • Stores: At the buy stations, you can only buy the primary weapon of your loadout
  • public events: In the course of a match, loadout drops are thrown randomly, which you can pick up – however, other players also see the drop
  • Stronghold and Black Sites: Teams that clear either a Stronghold or Black Site of NPC enemies will gain access to one of their loadouts

NPC enemies in Battle Royale

Also new to Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is the introduction of NPC enemies, more specifically the aforementioned Strongholds and Black Sites. In each match there will be multiple strongholds guarded by powerful NPC soldiers.

The team that takes the respective stronghold first and defuses the bomba there receives a key for a blacksite in addition to the loadout drop. They are structured similarly to the strongholds, but are guarded by significantly stronger opponents. If a team manages to conquer the Blacksite, they gain access to powerful weapons and a permanent weapon blueprint.

Teams that capture an already completed Stronghold will only get access to their custom loadout. However, the key for the black site has to be dispensed with.

More deadly circles

While there is usually only one large safe zone in a Battle Royale, there will be up to three zones in Call of Duty: Warzone 2. The number is random in each match and forces you to adapt your own strategy in each case.

Only at the end of a match do the safe zones find each other again and there is only a deadly circle.

More innovations

In addition to these major changes, there are also a few other innovations, which we briefly summarize here:

  • Third person mode: In addition to the well-known playlist options, there will also be optional third-person playlists in Warzone 2. These will be introduced during Season 1.
  • Interrogate: If you shoot an enemy player, you can then interrogate them so that they reveal the current position of their team members.
  • ally: Alternatively, you can also team up with a squad in Warzone to represent a large squad together.
  • Proximity Voice Chat: The integrated voice chat in Warzone 2 is now constantly audible for all players – so you should be careful if you make a lot of agreements with each other.
  • Vehicles: At release there will be ten different vehicles that you can drive or fly.
  • Petrol and gas stations: In Warzone 2, the vehicles no longer have unlimited fuel, but must be refueled in case of doubt. There are either gas canisters on the map or you drive to a gas station.

DMZ: Warzone’s new mode

In addition to the Battle Royale, there will also be a new DMZ mode in Warzone. This is reminiscent of extraction shooters like Escape from Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown, where you compete against both enemy player squads and AI opponents.

The aim is to complete various tasks on the map, bag valuable loot and escape. If you die trying, you will lose your match progress and have to start over.

What will become of Warzone 1?

Unlike Overwatch 2, the first Warzone will not be discontinued with its successor. However, Warzone will be temporarily shut down from November 16th to 28th to focus on the successor.

After that, the first Warzone will be reborn as Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera. We have recorded the effects of the renaming for you in a separate news item.
