God of War Ragnarök finally arrived on PS5 and PS4 in November. Will the game also be playable via PlayStation Plus Premium at release?

Kratos and Atreus brawl through Norse mythology again in God of War Ragnarök. Fans have been looking forward to the release of the game for a long time and the time has finally come. Four years after the first adventure in Midgard, it now continues almost seamlessly. The reviews of “God of War Ragnarök” so far have been great and the title is likely to change “Elden Ring” deliver a duel for the Game of the Year award 2022. This is essentially a must buy for PlayStation players unless the game is included with the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. Is that it?

PlayStation Plus premium is Sony’s answer to that Xbox Game Pass. This includes numerous titles from Sony’s own and external studios. In addition to the “God of War” from 2018, there are also “Spider-Man”, “Spider-Man: Miles Morales” and “Ghost of Tsushima” – all PlayStation exclusive titles. Therefore, one would think that “God of War Ragnarök” should also be available in the premium subscription. Unfortunately, that’s not the case – at least not yet.

Then PS Plus Premium has one major disadvantage compared to Microsoft’s counterpart, the Xbox Game Pass: So-called Day One Releases – games that are directly available on the release day – are not available with Sony’s gaming subscription. That’s certainly one of the reasons almost two million users have bounced since the launch of the new PS Plus options in June 2022 (via VGC). Sooner or later, God of War Ragnarök will surely end up on PS Plus Premium as well, but that will be some time after release. When exactly that will be is currently unclear – as well as whether “God of War Ragnarök” will appear on PC. Because Sony’s strategy is to first earn as much money as possible from the sales of the game before it is made available to “free” PS Plus subscribers.
