news
January 10, 2023 has long been the end date for any type of support for the Windows 7 operating system. Microsoft is now getting down to business and confirming that the KB5020000 and KB5020013 updates released for November Patch Day are the last updates that the outdated OS will receive.
The same applies to Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2, which will also no longer receive support in the form of security patches after the two most recent updates. The download is recommended because KB5020000 and KB5020013 fix three vulnerabilities, among others.
These are CVE-2022-38023, CVE-2022-37966 and CVE-2022-37967. For the complete list of all resolved vulnerabilities, see the Microsoft Security Response Center Official Guide (MSRC) again.
So far, the end of support for Windows 7 could be circumvented to a certain extent. For this, private and corporate customers had to participate in the paid “Extended Security Updates” program (ESU), which had provided further updates. As Microsoft announces, the end of Windows 7 support is also planned for the future.
In addition to the last two patches for Windows 7, Windows 10 and Windows 11 also received their updates as usual on November Patch Day. We show which changes can be found in the respective builds with the new updates in the linked articles.
