Asus has announced a new router with the ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000. This is said to be the first gaming model to support a quad-band connection and Wi-Fi 6E.

Hardly anything is as frustrating in games as persistent laggs. An undersized Internet line is usually more to blame than a bad router, but that hasn’t stopped manufacturers from bringing various “gaming routers” onto the market in recent years. The latest router from Asus is also one of these: The ROG Rapture GTAXE16000 is advertised with high data rates and some special gaming features.

Infinity mirror, eight antennas and quad band

In the announcement, Asus throws in various proprietary technology terms such as VPN Fusion; AiProtection, Instant Guard and triple-level game acceleration around you. The company also advertises an infinity mirror on the top, which is supposed to reflect the LED-illuminated ROG logo on the top. This mirror effect is likely to be the biggest visual difference compared to the previous model, the ROG Rapture GTAXE11000: This also relied on a similar housing shape with the eight antennas shown above.

Of course, the inner workings are much more exciting than the optics. Asus advertises the ROG Rapture GTAXE16000 with support for Wi-Fi 6E and a quad-band connection. The device should be able to communicate via one channel each in the 2.4 and 6 GHz band and via two channels in the 5 GHz band. Overall, the router should thus achieve maximum transmission rates of 16,000 Mbit/s.

With regard to the connections on the device, Asus speaks of two WAN or LAN ports with 10 Gbit, one WAN port with 2.5 Gbit and four LAN ports with 1 Gbit. These should also be able to be interconnected in order to achieve a higher transmission rate. According to Asus, it should also be possible to connect the router to two Internet providers at the same time in order to increase stability or the data rate. Finally, a USB 2.0 and a USB 3.0 port are also provided on the router.

If you want the advertised package of functions and connections, you have to dig deep into your pocket. According to Asus, the ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000 should be available immediately for an RRP of 709.95 euros. In the PCGH price comparison, the model is already for “only” listed for 625 eurosbut this also makes the device one of the most expensive routers currently available.
