According to the SteamDB database, the role-playing game climbed to number 5 in the global top seller charts one day after its release and was able to captivate almost 10,000 Steam players in front of the monitor at the same time. A good 83 percent of the slightly more than 260 reviews are positive, celebrating the remake as a successful new edition of one of the most defining titles of all time. Among the critical voices, there are mainly reviewers who see the graphics and animations as old-fashioned and, despite the revised version, as unmodern.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn – That’s what it’s all about

Tactics Ogre: Reborn is a tactical role-playing game played in 2.5D isometric perspective. As in the original SNES game, which has since been recognized as one of the best tactical RPGs of all time and helped found the popularity of an entire genre alongside Final Fantasy, the core of the gameplay lies in combat, where the player has turn-based control of a Group of up to 12 characters takes over. With a multitude of micro and macro decisions, Tactics Ogre: Reborn wants to offer the necessary depth and variety. The decisions made not only affect the battles themselves, but also have noticeable consequences for the entire story: who lives, who dies, who joins the group and who becomes enemies is often in the hands of the player.

In terms of story, everything in the remake revolves around the story of the two siblings Denam and Catiua, who live on the islands of Valeria. This is divided into various factions – the protagonist couple themselves belong to the minority of Walisters, who have always struggled with oppression within the setting. After the destruction of their hometown, Denam and Catiua join a rebellion that fights against this oppression – with far-reaching consequences for their entire lives.
