Lian Li: The new Lancool 216 case should be suitable for air and water cooling

from Valentin Sattler
Lian Li’s newest case, the Lancool 216, is based on the Lancool 215 and brings some detail changes with it. Many features of the predecessor are taken over directly.

With the Lancool 216, Lian Li has presented a new case that is based directly on the Lancool 215 that is already available. At first glance, the two cases look quite similar, but there are several changes in detail. In addition, the new Lancool 216 is generally slightly larger than its predecessor, which means that Lian Li is positioning himself for the new generation of graphics cards with their expansive coolers.

With regard to the graphics card, there is again talk of an optional possibility for vertical mounting. In addition, users should be able to improve cooling again with a fan mounted behind the PCI-E panels by transporting the waste heat out of the case from a different direction. This function should be aimed in particular at users of an air-cooled graphics card, but Lian Li also explicitly speaks of its suitability for water cooling. Therefore, for example, there should be two different mounting positions for the mainboard, which can be used to create space for radiators.

Dimensions 480.9 x 235 x 491.7mm
motherboard up to E-ATX (280 mm)
graphic card up to 392 mm
CPU cooler up to 180.5 mm
power adapter ATX (up to 220mm)
drives 6x 2.5″ or 4x 2.5″ + 2x 3.5″
I/O Power, reset, audio, 2x USB 3.0, 1x USB-C
fan above 3x 120 / 2x 140mm
fan below 2x 120 / 2x 140mm
fan in front 3x 120 / 2x 140 / 2x 160mm
rear fan 2x 120 / 1x 140mm
radiators 2x 360mm front & top, 1x 240mm bottom

Of these, there should be room for a maximum of one 360 in the front and one on the top and one 240 on the bottom. Overall, Lian Li also speaks of a maximum of ten possible fans: In addition to the eight models for the radiators, there is also the model mentioned behind the PCI-E panels and the usual fan at the top of the mainboard. Only three of these are included: two 160s at the front and one 140 at the rear.

In terms of optics, Lian Li particularly emphasizes the front and upper side made of mesh, which – in contrast to the Lancool 215 – should now be largely continuous. In addition, the I/O panel now has an additional USB-C port, whereas the predecessor only had the old A sockets installed.

According to Lian Li, the Lancool 216 will be available in three versions: in black with and without lighting, and in white with lighting. Depending on the price, 100, 110 or 115 US dollars are required. Of course, if you want to use the fully equipped case, you have to plan for additional costs: For example, for additional fans or for the optionally available front dust filter, which Lian Li again does not deliver ex works. Instead, the Lancool 216 only has a filter on the bottom when delivered.
