MontanaBlack holds real talk about the Wok World Cup on Twitch: “This is something that really pisses me off about TV”

On November 12th, after a 7-year break, the TV total Wok World Championship took place. A team consisting of well-known German Twitch streamers was there. One of the streamers, Marcel “MontanaBlack Eris (34) drew an honest conclusion after his participation. He complained a lot, but also talked about his highlights.

What was that event? The Wok World Cup is a TV format created by Stefan Raab. It took place annually between 2003 and 2015, and now the Wok World Cup has returned to German television after a 7-year break.

How did it go for the content creators? In addition to the Twitch team consisting of MontanaBlack, Trymacs, Knossi and UnsympathischTV, a team with the YouTubers Papaplatte, Rewi and Laserluca also competed. The YouTube team was supported by wildcard winner Johannes.

Unfortunately, neither of the two influencer teams was able to toboggan onto the podium, for Trymacs the Wok World Championship even ended with an injury.

Now MontanaBlack addressed his points of criticism and highlights of the Wok World Cup in a real talk.

MontanaBlack’s career and life in 2 minutes: what makes him special?

“It was awesome to be there, but…”

In a stream on November 13th, the day after the Wok World Championship, MontanaBlack summed it up. When asked about his participation, he explained: “It was a great thing to have been there.” MontanaBlack probably liked the time spent together with the “boys”, the other participating streamers and YouTubers, in particular.

What were the highlights for MontanaBlack? For the streamer, the highlight was clearly hanging out with other content creators and people he’d only known from TV before, like Evil Jared from the Bloodhound Gang.

MontanaBlack particularly highlighted a 15-minute conversation with the former “TV total” presenter and father of the Wok World Cup, Stefan Raab. Knossi had probably kept a promise and made sure that MontanaBlack was allowed to shake hands with the entertainer.

MontanaBlack also liked meeting Manfred “Manni” Ludolf from the scrap dealer series “The Ludolfs”. Ludolf is a really nice guy and gave him an autograph card, which Günter Ludolf, who has passed away in the meantime, had also signed.

After the positive start, however, a big “but” followed. Because MontanaBlack also had a lot to complain about. As one viewer notes, an event without criticism from Monte is not a real event (via YouTube).

Lots of boredom and dead time on the fringes of the event

What bothered MontanaBlack?

  • For one, MontanaBlack found that the time it took to “toboggan down the track twice” was quite large. As he reported, the participants were on site from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., then had to appear again at 6:15 p.m. and put on their protective clothing. But then they didn’t have anything to do until 10:45 p.m., which is why he looked so bored at times, according to MontanaBlack.
  • In addition, he felt that he was really on display due to the long waiting time. The whole time people walked past him wanting photos.
  • MontanaBlack was also dissatisfied with the way the Internet personalities were dealt with. In the clip with which the participants were introduced, not a single clip of them was included. Instead, the YouTuber Joshua Weißleder alias Simon Desue was shown to bring people closer to the topic of content creators. According to MontanaBlack, that was the person who least represented her as a streamer.
  • In addition, MontanaBlack had the feeling that the well-known Internet personalities were invited primarily for their reach. This was then exploited by showing a long advertising block both before and after their departure, which was not the case with other teams. In the end he felt “quite cheated”.

MontanaBlack finds TV ads ‘worst’

All the advertising was the point that probably upset MontanaBlack the most:

That’s one thing that really pisses me off about television. Yesterday I realized how bad it is. […] Digga, 15 minutes of advertising per hour, it really sucks. That got me excited yesterday for you guys and for me too. How the advertising is slammed in, it’s really bad.

He certainly understands that such an event causes costs. However, the mass of advertising was simply too much.

This is MontanaBlack’s verdict: All in all, the streamer didn’t want to complain too much despite all the criticism. The hotel and the food were good. He is also grateful to be able to experience something like this. MontanaBlack would not need to participate in this form again.

“You’ve experienced it and that’s the most important thing,” said MontanaBlack, ending the topic. He celebrated his own stream a lot more:
