Starfield: Phil Spencer: Postponing the game was the right decision

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Rumor: Customizable Kill Cams Coming Soon

Phil Spencer is certain that the postponement of the role-playing game Starfield was the right decision.

November 11, 2022 should have been a real celebration for role-playing fans. Because on this day Starfield would have originally appeared for Xbox consoles and PC.

But the game, which is based on a brand new IP from the studio, was already postponed by Bethesda Softworks in May.

Postponing the game to give the team more time was the right decision, according to Phil Spencer.

In an interview with The Verge the CEO of the gaming division at Microsoft spoke of the experience of bringing games to the market too early.

“We have experience with releasing games too early. But in hindsight, when you look at a game like Starfield – which has taken so long and the team has invested so much in a new IP – the decision is to give the team the time to develop the game they’re talking about believe they should develop it, exactly the right decision.”

Both the Starfield and Redfall teams, who are working on the first truly big titles for Xbox, should feel good about the added security in development.

“Starfield and Redfall, our first major Xbox games with [Bethesda-Eigentümer] ZeniMax on the team, I just wanted to make sure these teams feel like they can get Xbox support. Maybe they feel the benefit of being part of a larger organization that has other revenue streams and other things that could be helpful.”

A new release date for Starfield is still pending. It is expected to be released in 2023.
