The best houseplant for gamers should cost 180 euros - that's what makes them so special

Indoor plants are a popular embellishment in apartments. Now a team has presented a plant that is supposed to do one thing particularly well. That sounds like the perfect plant for the gaming room, but the price might not appeal to many.

There are several reasons why you should put a plant in your home:

  • For example, plants improve the humidity in the air because they release 90% of the water back into the air.
  • According to NASA study Plants are natural air purifiers and clean the air of toxic substances.
  • Plants are also said to reduce stress levels (via ncbi.nlm.gov).

A company wanted to make the green plants even better and changed a well-known plant that many people like to put in their homes. The price for such a plant is not cheap either.

Genetically modified plant is said to be 30 times more effective than normal plants

What exactly did the company do? The Neoplants team took on the air-purifying function of a golden ivy (pothos) and adapted it. To do this, the entire genome of the plant had to be decoded. That should have been as complicated as building an airplane (via bgr.com).

Incidentally, the remaining functions of the plant have not been changed, according to Neoplants. The plant does not grow faster and is also not more resistant to diseases.

What does this change bring? With the genetically modified houseplant, the cleaning effect is said to be much better than with conventional houseplants. According to Neoplants, the Neo P1 is even 30 times more effective than the best NASA plants (via neoplants.com)

The plant is said to be able to deal much better with organic compounds (VOC) that are used in various products such as chemicals, cleaning agents or building materials. You can find an extensive list at Federal Environment Agency.

How much does a plant like this cost? The genetically modified houseplant is said to be on the market for 179 US dollars and should cost around 180 to 200 euros when it becomes available in Germany. This makes the plant significantly more expensive than a normal houseplant. For comparison: For a conventional Golden Efeutute you pay around 10 euros in the hardware store.
