Steam: The shooter CS:GO nerfs one of the most important weapons in PC gaming 10 years after its release

The shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (Steam) has nerfed the sniper rifle AWP: After a new update, the magazine only has 5 shots instead of 10. This is the biggest nerf to the iconic weapon since the release of the e-sports shooter CS: GO on Steam in 2012.

What is this weapon? The AWP is “The Arctic Warfare Police”, a sniper rifle made by the British arms manufacturer Accuracy International LTD, which is used by the police. It has a 24-inch barrel and uses 6.62×51mm NATO ammunition.

How does the WP work in the game? The AWP is a “High Risk, High Reward” weapon in CS:GO: Costing $4,750, it is the most expensive weapon in CS:GO, but it is also one of the most effective.

Many esports teams specifically play with one or more “AWPlers” who specialize in using the sniper rifle: The most famous CS:GO player in the world, s1mple, is AWPler.

A skilled sniper can use the rifle to wreak havoc on an enemy team, getting two, three, or four kills in quick succession.

Over the years, this has led to the “AWP” becoming one of the most important weapons in PC gaming.

Counter-Strike Wikipedia describes the weapon as a “devastatingly powerful long-range weapon with extreme accuracy and indecent stopping power.” However, the high price and sluggish playstyle required a great deal of training, accuracy, and experience to master the weapon (via cs-wiki).

The AWP also exists in other games like Valorant, albeit in different variants.

After patch, AWP only has 5 instead of 10 shots – “So that everyone counts”

This is the nerf now: In the new patch from 18.11. the magazine size of the AWP has been reduced from 10 to 5. The magazine is cut in half.

Steam operator Valve says they want every shot to count.
