Intel Arc: XeSS plugin for Unreal Engine, new driver for CoD Warzone with funny German changelog

In addition to an XeSS plugin for the current iterations of the Unreal engine, Intel has also released a new beta graphics driver for its own Arc models. We can’t judge whether the graphics driver has the quality of a beta version, but the translation and corruption of some game titles can. So read more below about the apparently automatic translation of the changelog and why it’s good to have XeSS in Unreal titles.

The graphics card manufacturers’ upscaling technologies are important selection criteria for modern titles. If a player plays certain games with the support of a technology, it may well be that this technology – be it DLSS or FSR – has a significant influence on the purchase decision. But not only AMD and Intel offer upscalers, Intel also has such a technology in its portfolio with XeSS, which is now to be further distributed through several measures.

The first such measure is implementation in the popular Unreal engine. This game engine from Epic is very popular among developers and in its current fifth iteration, it can achieve photorealistic results, as regularly shown in tech demos. By using an upscaler, less powerful graphics cards could also be used in the future or higher frame rates could be achieved. Intel has now released a XeSS plugin for the Unreal Engine versions 4.0, 4.26 and 5.0.

However, XeSS only works in the DX-12 renderer and is not available as open source code. Instead, the developers have to adopt pre-configured program elements. AMD’s FSR 2.0, on the other hand, is open source and has been available to developers since last June. In addition to these innovations for XeSS, Intel has also released a new beta graphics driver for CoD Warzone.

This should offer significant performance improvements and support for new titles, especially Warzone. There are also Dirt 5, Far Cry 6, Frontiers, Terra, Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales and many more titles. What they all have in common is an increase in performance of between three and seven percent for Intel’s new graphics cards. However, something seems to have gone wrong with the translation of the release notes, which are certainly written in English. The games Dirt 5 and Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales are hardly recognizable as real titles.
