Modern Warfare 2: Fans are annoyed by the clearly loud footsteps again
With the release of the Season 1 update, the volume of footsteps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been significantly increased again.
There is talk of up to 75 percent and fans are anything but happy with this change.
Already criticized during the beta
Already during the beta, fans had complained about loud footsteps making it hard to hear anything else.
Sneaking and flanking was also made significantly more difficult. It has been speculated that developer Infinity Ward wanted to encourage people to camp.

With the release of the shooter, the volume was revised down, but the Season 1 update now changed that significantly in the opposite direction.
CoD YouTuber TheXclusiveAce published an initial analysis on Twitter:
To be clear, it may not be a 75% increase across the board (I just measured the peaks) and also, as someone pointed out, Db aren’t linear. Either way, it’s VERY noticeably louder after the update.

Why Infinity Ward made these changes is unclear. Fans suspect that this is to accommodate new players who have downloaded the game for Warzone 2.0.
At the same time, it could be a side effect of Warzone being integrated into the Modern Warfare 2 launcher.
It remains to be seen whether and to what extent Infinity Ward will correct the volume of the step noises down again.
