The Great War: Western Front – Developers reveal detailed gameplay scenes
The Great War: Western Front, the tactical RTS from former C&C developers, is now available for the first time to see concrete gameplay material. The team behind the World War II title presented the campaign in more detail as part of the PC Gaming Show.
The Great War: Western Front, announced by the Petroglyph developer studio, could be a real treat for fans of solid tactical real-time strategy – after all, the former C&C developers have long since made a name for themselves with titles such as Star Wars: Empire at War and Gray Goo. Many details were not yet known about the World War title – but that has now changed.
Gameplay video reveals campaign glimpse
Because the team behind The Great War: Western Front published the first gameplay scenes from their real-time strategy game as part of the PC Gaming Show in mid-November 2022. The focus of the video, which fans can watch on YouTube, among other places, is on the game’s campaign, which we can experience from the perspective of both the Allies and the Central Powers:
The developers write more about the concept of the campaign in a blog post on Steam. Players take on the role of both field commander and war theater commander. The former takes care of the actual battles of the soldiers on the ground, determines the timing of the attack and builds trenches to protect their own troops. We can decide for ourselves whether we want to be more defensive and slow down the enemy’s advance with machine gun nests and barbed wire, or whether we opt for an aggressive strategy. In the latter case, we attack the enemy positions directly with artillery and tanks.
As Commander of the Theater of War, on the other hand, we see the big picture and take care of managing our resources, researching new technologies and advancing our own army. The Great War: Western Front still has no specific release date, but will be released for PC sometime in 2023.
