Just Dance 2023 Edition Review

Just Dance 2023 Edition Review

There is no doubt that the Just Dance dance series has become a benchmark in terms of dance games. The developers call it the ultimate dance-on-demand platform. Now, we have to Just Dance 2023 Edition, the edition that will be the last to be released, due to the fact that it will become a live service game, with constant updates.

As a new iteration, the game brings some new features, including a progression system and a new menu interface reminiscent of a streaming platform. Also, for the first time, the online multiplayer mode is included, an option highly demanded by fans. The series has evolved to include standout songs of the year, as well as viral internet phenomena.

We return to the usual premise, we will have a list of songs with choreographic videos in which we must imitate the movements of the dancers. We will receive scores if our rhythm matches the dance pole, receiving scores between Ok, Good, Super and Perfect. The more precise the better. Each song will have different difficulties, and this translates into more intense choreography.

The game was tested on Nintendo Switch, and like other deliveries we can use the Joy-Cons. The game makes use of the function HD Rumble of vibration of the Joy-Con, but as always, it is not so precise. We can cheat the game just by moving at the right time, and it is not necessary to imitate the movements of the dancers. Also, the use of the Just Dance Controller App returns, through our smartphones-

Just Dance TV

Just Dance 2023 Edition Review

Just Dance 2023 Edition It presents a new interface that reminded me of streaming platforms like Netflix, HBO Max, among others. We can choose our avatar, and once chosen we go to the menu section in which on the left side we have the options Start, Songs, Notifications, Search, Profile and Settings.

This new menu makes it easier to search for the songs that interest us, by displaying the names of the songs and presenting a brief preview. Now the themes are divided by categories depending on our tastes. For example, we will see featured songs, set search filters, training sessions, songs by decades. But we will detail this later.

Each theme shows its name, a short video preview, its difficulty and the number of stars it has earned (a total of 5 stars). Also a small icon of the + sign, which indicates if the song is included in the service Just Dance+, which I will talk about later.

The game will detect our dance preferences and consequently it will suggest songs based on what we’ve seen. Also when we choose a theme, it will suggest similar songs, something like a because you saw X song.

game modes

Just Dance 2023 Edition Review

At the beginning we have a Story Mode called Enter The DanceVerses consisting of a session of six songs for a total of 28 minutes of dance. It is a video session in sequence in which the dancers live a story that takes them through various universes in which they recruit other dancers.

At the end there will be a dance battle of two teams, good against evil. Although the inclusion of the story mode is appreciated, some kind of incentive that includes some kind of sense of loss was not included, since the ending is the same.

Training Session: a way to train while we dance with 22-minute sessions. The songs are chosen according to your level of mobility, and they will increase the pace as you go. It has two sub-modes, Quick Session for when we don’t have much time to train and Sweat More that makes us move to speed up our heart rate.

Songs: In this menu, we can establish filters for the suggestions and searches of the topics. Filters range from alphabetical order,

  • Music Genres: Latino, Rock, K-Pop, Dance, Electro, Pop, Hip-Hop.
  • Choreography Styles: Kids, For Friends, Duet, Trio, Solo, Quartet.
  • Moods: Motivating, Funny, Epic, Romantic, Calm, Happy, Intense.
  • Decades: A mode that shows us the songs through the decades. These range from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010 and 2020.
  • Accessibility: With Seat, Little Space, No jumps, No ground mobility, Few legs.

Just Dance 2023 Edition, It has a new progression system that allows you to earn points for each completed dance. Depending on our performance, we will level up gaining experience and each level unlocks the most attractive rewards. The rewards are Nicknames, Funds, Cards and badges, smileys, gestures, ect.

Also, we will have a series of challenges divided into categories. These are: Explore, Shine, Party, Training, Promotion. They can be challenges like playing a number of intense songs, solo songs, getting 100 stars, etc. Also, through Ubisoft Connect we will have a series of additional challenges.

Dance with Me

Just Dance 2023 Edition Review

One feature that fans of the dance series have requested the most is an online multiplayer mode. Now, players will be able to create groups with up to six friends and choose the songs that we want to play, ideal for creating online sessions as if we were in the same place.

If Just Dance stands out as a series for something, it is undoubtedly because of its artistic section. This time it has a new art direction in which new 3D environments shine. We will have very showy and colorful videos, we must also highlight the dance teachers, who are professionals.

One detail is that the game, being an online service, depends a lot on our internet connection. I have been having speed problems and the experience can be frustrating if our connection is not good. This is noticeable in the quality of the videos, which look bad, due to the connection itself.

Verdict

Just Dance 2023 Edition it’s a step up for the dance series. Now it has come closer to what a music streaming platform is and presents a new interface that lends itself to these purposes. However, on Nintendo Switch it suffers from the same motion control issues, which can cheat the game. Another point is that the game depends on a constant connection, and this will depend on our speed, although a list of songs can be downloaded for when we are not connected.

Note: This review was made on the Nintendo Switch version and the code was provided thanks to Ubisoft.
